- He Really Can Act: Eric Bana got a lot of this, having done little but TV sketch shows beforehand. It's still one of the best things he's ever done. Bana himself disclaimed this trope in an interview about the film, where he said "I know how to be somebody else. I don't really know how to act."
- Tom Hanks Syndrome: Before this film, Bana was previously known as a comedian. Since then, his focus has shifted strongly to drama.
