YMMV / Beetle Bailey

Go To

  • Bizarro Episode: CAMP SWAMPY CONSTRUCTION AREA. (A big sign saying that has crashed into the middle of the panel, and there's general mayhem around it... for some reason.)
  • Broken Base: Some people would like the 1960s cartoon for being good in its own right. Others would dismiss it for not being faithful to the comic strip.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Beetle Bailey has been very popular in Scandinavia for decades. The strip has its own regular comic book in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. This probably relates to all three nations having a tradition of conscription even in peacetime, meaning nearly all men above the age of 20 can relate in some way.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Whenever Beetle and Sarge actually get along and behave as friends.
    • Beetle eventually starts dating Miss Buxley which can certainly be seen as heartwarming (and hilarious that he'd be the soldier to capture her heart).
  • Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading: It's probably not intentional, but Beetle and Sarge have had many, MANY instances of Ho Yay over the years. Beetle's always had a steady girlfriend, and then he started dating Ms. Buxley. It's actually become a popular headcanon that Beetle and Sarge are gay lovers in a Don't Ask, Don't Tell era military and their constant scuffles and insults are Belligerent Sexual Tension built up by their inability to freely engage in a relationship.
