YMMV / Ask Frisk and Company

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: After Chara possesses Drunk Chara, we abruptly cut to Papyrus's date with Mettaton, with a Soriel Funny Background Event. This would be relevant, but the very next update abandons this scene, returning to the void to greet Erika and Blake, which then leads back into the Demonic Possession plot. (This is downplayed, however, as the scene does have a small bit of relevance: Paolo gets a line in hinting towards the camera operator, who is the previously-mentioned Erika.)
  • Broken Base:
    • The fact that all the fallen children are non-binary in this blog. Some find reason to complain by pointing out how highly improbable it is that they all would be as such (though it is later explained that it's due to the extremely literal magical prophecy that guided them there). Others like the spotlight that it brings to this issue. And many probably couldn't care less either way.
    • The comic's heavy leaning towards Nobody Can Die has become subject to this, with detractors claiming that it completely removes all tension and stakes from the plot's conflicts, while the supporters claim that a happy, feel good story shouldn't be demonized, especially for a source game that has many, many infamously Darker and Edgier fanworks. The back-to-back resurrections of Asriel and Chara have only inflamed these debates.
    • Chara's redemption received very mixed reception among the readers. Some were ecstatic to finally see them become part of the Dreemurr - family and going through some much needed Character Development. Others were somewhat dumbfounded at how Easily Forgiven they were, considering their countless murders, possessions and just general harassment of the main cast and criticized the lack of consequences they faced.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Jason grew into this. When the askers basically spelled this out for him, he appeared genuinely touched.
    • The banshee who made a cameo in "The Most Fabulous Place on Earth" garnered a surprising amount of asks and submissions regarding her despite having only a single background appearance.
  • Fandom VIP:
    • Tumblr user ClimaxStriker is a leading theorist in the AFAC fandom, and orchestrated the first attempt to fully restore Asriel's soul. He is the only asker thus far to be referred to by name by a character. He also holds the record for the most asks gotten into the comic at a whopping 41, more than double the runner up.
    • Tumblr user Walter Teigan distilled every post ever made for AFAC into its wiki so comprehensively Trash Queen uses it to keep track of her own lore. He also counted every ask in the comic and calculated how many asks each contributor got into the comic.
    • Youtuber and Tumblr user Miamouse dubs the entire comic as well as MWSIH herself and has passed the official Studio Catbird dub, having caught up to the current point in the story. As if that wasn't enough, she has started an AU of the comic called Ask Chara and Friends that follows an Underswap cast.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Maverick encountering Asgore while raiding the house comes off as funny with how awkward the situation is, but then we learn Maverick comes from a world that, for all intents and purposes, seems to have suffered an apocalypse. Maverick's Asgore is likely dead by now.
    • Sans Faking the Dead in Red Echoes becomes this after another renowned Undertale fanwork, Glitchtale, actually does kill him off eventually, even if it was undone after several episodes.
    • The Reveal that Asriel's soul was attached to Chara's — meaning that killing Chara would have killed Asriel as well — makes the turmoil over Sans almost killing Chara in Red Echoes more disturbing in hindsight.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: (Spoiler warning for Deltarune) Flowey’s love of playing Super Smash Bros. becomes funnier given that in Deltarune, it’s stated that Asriel liked it (or at least as close as is legal) a lot as a kid.
  • Memetic Mutation: Several of AFAC!Chara's expressions in here and here have been used for quite a few memes, which can be seen on the main blog.
  • I Knew It!: ClimaxStriker put his 'Absolute God of Hyper White Chocolate' plan into action after correctly guessing that Asriel's soul was still merged with Chara's from the time he absorbed Chara's soul in Undertale's backstory. The plan went off without a hitch and confirmed the guess.
  • No Yay: When it was revealed that Maverick and Chara had been in a relationship, many people expressed their distaste, due to the fact that Asriel and Chara are typically interpreted to be adopted siblings.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: We're clearly meant to feel sorry for Braids when we're shown that they're in a state of depression after losing their arm, but considering their only appearance thus far portrayed them as a murderous thug who gleefully attempted to strangle Jason to death (and came dangerously close to doing so), it rings rather hollow.
