YMMV / Animated Inanimate Battle

Go To

  • Adorkable: Quite a few characters can be this.
    • Oodle himself is a little timid, yet is kind to others.
    • Showery is one of the friendlier members on Team 6, but his insecurities give him an additional awkward vibe.
    • Bone, with his unknown past with the others and nice personality.
    • Leek is this because of his shy, yet sweet personality. He forgives Oodle for eating him in the pilot and convinces him to stay so they can be friends. He may have bladder issues, but he still a very nice and cute character.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: This interpretation of Blanket by a Fandom user portrays her as a Genki Girl who can get tired at times and is really skilled. Pretty different from the Shrinking Violet who sometimes plays sports that she is in the actual canon.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Roe. Some fans love her for being like a little toddler who can't do a thing on her own, while others criticize her for not doing anything aside from wandering off the moment Pill doesn't have eyes on her.
    • Pitchfork. Is she a well-meaning jerk who is actually trying to make Team 5 win, or is she just another one of those cliched bossy, tyrannical, and unlikable contestants in which a few people are getting tired of? Even after episode 3, some fans felt bad for Pitchfork after becoming an outcast to Team 5, while others would not forgive her for destroying her team's claw machine in a fit of rage.
    • A gimmick Twitter (now X) account posted a clip of AIB 2 where Glowstick falls into a depression following Pitchfork rejecting him, and a quote retweet of this clip where the retweeter called him their "meow meow" (which is an internet term for "pathetic person"), he became one of the more base-breaking contestants for quite a while. Robert apparently knows about this, going by his New Year's video.
  • Cargo Ship: Considering how Fireball imagines Mr. Pickaxe calling her "My Love" implies she might have romantic feelings for the inanimate object.
  • Ho Yay: In "An Ice Beginning," Flaggy blocks an incoming javelin, causing it to hit her instead of Blanket. The latter then blushes. This could be interpreted as a Ship Tease between the two, but Blanket could have been blushing for another reason.
    • Towards the end of "Sun Blocked", instead of Blanket's usual Blush Sticker in response to most of her teammates applauding her, her face uniquely flushes red when Flaggy praises her.
    • Also in the same episode, Orange and Yellow Food Dye snap Nacho out of her Existential Horror by dumping pizza cheese on her head. While giving the pair her thanks, she not only calls them "my lovely madames" but also kisses Orange Dye on her hand.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "I'm British! Why am I British?"Explanation
    • The image of Team 4 (as well as Oodle and Tvo) gasping in reaction to Alef revealing the red triangle symbol on the paint can in "Sun Blocked" became used as a reaction image among the fanbase, usually to convey shock.
  • Moe: Depending in which fan you ask, Oodle can be the doodle to give a hug to. He has a pretty cute appearance to boot.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • The mysterious entity who possesses Bone is given the nickname of "Red Eyes" on TV Tropes because of their titular red eyes and nobody knows their real name as of now.
    • Fake Pitchfork, a character who only appeared in the short "Drawn Together", was given the nicknames "Doodlefork" and "Pitchfake" by fans.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
  • The Scrappy: While she doesn't necessarily ruin the plot, Popsicle Stick receives a lot of flak for being very reliant on her Best Friend, Jelly, who is on a different team. In fact, she had the second-highest amount of votes during Team 6's first elimination.
  • Shocking Elimination: People were certain that Pitchfork was going to be leaving the show in "Fartists" but it was instead Pear who got the bootnote . Then again though, Pear did end up pushing Oodle's Berserk Buttons.
  • Tear Jerker: Episode 4, Fartists, has Alef being bullied and teased by Glue and Nabla. Even though it can be argued that he deserves it due to being an immature little brat, it is still hard and sad to see it happen. The climax of it is when Alef gets humiliated and is brutally laughed at. Alef is at first angry, before giving up and lets the tears fall before running off. Ouch!
  • Viewer Species Confusion: One too many times, viewers can't help seeing Apricot as a butt. Perhaps it's the lack of leaves or stems which distinguish peach-shaped fruits from butts. Robert seems to catch on and give Apricot the stem and leaf he lacks after his death in "Get A Grip".
  • The Woobie: Bone. The poor guy is an outcast and is hated by everyone (except Oodle). As noted on his character page, it is not explained why he is hated. His own teammates are annoyed at having him on their team, and to top it off, he gets possessed between episodes two and three. Although, the said entity might be helping him.
