• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Despite being widely discredited as junk science that does way more harm than good, lobotomies are not outlawed in the United States.
• Broken Base: This episode is very polarizing among fans of the show.
  • Either Fung Wah makes it a unique episode that fits the spirit of the show or an unfunny gimmick that would be more appropriate on Family Guy.
  • The A-Plot itself also contributes to this. The fans who hate the episode find the plot another retread of "Stan acts like a selfish ass only to learn his lesson at the end", with a cheap Ass Pull ending where Fung Wah says everything will be fine for Francine and Stan thanks to Fung Wah himself. The fact that Francine suffers a mental breakdown after being unfairly committed and realizing Stan was behind it is especially tough for some to see. On the other hand, those who like the episode find Stan's antics funny and point out that Francine had previously beaten Stan so severely that when he forgot a previous anniversary, it ended up on an episode of Cops, so Stan had some justification for being afraid of her reaction. Fung Wah's Hand Wave that fixes the Smiths' marriage and Stan's lobotomy are defended for intentionally being ridiculous because Fung Wah is using it as blatant Product Placement for more of his businesses.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Francine's mental breakdown once she's had enough of Stan's callousness, which gets her institutionalized for real. Not only that, but she is rendered physically crippled thanks to the copious amount of drugs she is being given.
  • Stan and Francine getting lobotomized so they could forget everything that went wrong.
• The Woobie: Poor Francine gets falsely incarcerated, paralyzed, and later lobotomized as a result of Stan's negligence.
