Release Date: May 25, 2015

Stan has Francine committed to a mental hospital to hide the fact that he once again forgot their wedding anniversary, only for her to be re-committed after throwing a fit — all the while, the entire episode slowly turns into a propaganda piece that sings the praises of a Chinese billionaire who bought the episode from Seth MacFarlane.

Tropes

  • Aesop Amnesia: The last time Stan forgot his anniversary, Francine was absolutely pissed with him, and his attempts to mess with her mind to cover for himself went horribly wrong. Here, Stan does more-or-less the exact same thing again (only with a mental hospital instead of memory-erasing technology), having learned nothing. Once again, the results are bad.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: At the end, Stan and Francine receive a lobotomy so they could forget all their troubles, despite lobotomies being outdated since 1967note .
  • Bedlam House: The facility Francine gets sent to is this, where its patients are openly tortured and patronized by the staff. Lobotomy procedures are also considered legal.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Stan gets distracted from getting Francine an anniversary gift by a bunch of stuff that catches his interests at the mall.
  • Body Horror:
    • Francine endures severe medication induced paralysis after being taken in by the ward staff.
    • Stan and Francine get lobotomized to move on from their traumatic experiences.
  • Break the Cutie: Happens to Francine when she gets abducted by the CIA and taken to the mental asylum where she eventually gets institutionalized for real due to losing her marbles from Stan's behavior. Even worse, she later gets lobotomized (alongside Stan) just to forget everything she went through.
  • Can't You Read the Sign?: Stan gets a water massage in the mall, where an annoyed clerk tries to point out the "No Climaxing" sign to him.
  • Credits Gag: Fung Wah is listed as an Executive Producer during the credits after the opening sequence.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Stan didn't consider ahead of time that Francine would put two and two together who put her in the mental asylum.
  • Driven to Madness: Francine eventually gets institutionalized for real after being abandoned by Stan at the asylum for three days and being given fried chicken as compensation.
  • Exploding Closet: The b-plot starts when Roger puts a single pair of pants in his closet, causing an avalanche that carries him all the way to the living room.
  • Forgotten Anniversary: Deconstructed. Stan forgets his and Francine's wedding anniversary, so he has her sent to a mental asylum to make time for an anniversary gift. Of course, Stan forgets again the reason she was sent there in the first place; he gives her some fried chicken at last minute to compensate. Francine is understandably disgusted and completely loses her marbles.
  • Groin Attack: Stan uses Francine's wheelchair to smash the testicles of two security guards.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Stan has Francine falsely incarcerated in the mental hospital just to keep her from knowing he forgot their anniversary again. After forgetting to get Francine's anniversary present again, he decides to give her a bucket of fried chicken as compensation.
  • Lethally Stupid: Stan. He has Francine abandoned in a mental asylum to make time for an anniversary gift, only to immediately forget the reason she was sent there in the first place. Due to having nothing prepared, he decides to give Francine some fried chicken to compensate, driving the latter up the wall.
  • Marty Stu: Invoked now that Fung Wah has purchased the show. Before he appears in animated form, Steve, Hayley, Roger and Klaus all praise him for being so wealthy and successful. When Fung appears at the Smith house, he immediately fixes the B-Plot problem of Roger having too many clothes (to which the quartet praise him), then goes on an adventure with them where he discovers buried treasure under the sidewalk and takes over the voices for all four.
  • Product Placement: Invoked for laughs as part of Fung's takeover of the show. The head of the asylum abruptly stops explaining Francine's condition to Stan in order to take a long swig of Fung Wah brand water. Later, Stan asks an orderly where Francine is and leaves when he gets the answer. Instead of following Stan, we get a lengthy, Family Guy-esque sequence where the orderly, alone in an empty room, gives a long advertisement for Success by Fung Wah Cologne. Finally, Fung Wah himself explains everything works out between Stan and Francine because they go on a second Honeymoon at Fung Wah Resort in Bali, a plug that also includes his luxury suit line, his glassware and his chocolates.
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: The end features the family dancing with Mickey Mouse when he appears in their rice paddy (Don't ask). Except "Mickey" is purple, wearing white shorts with red buttons, and doesn't sound quite right.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Francine not only gets falsely incarcerated for three days, but she gets incarcerated for real due to Stan's negligence. If that wasn't enough, she becomes immobilized and then lobotomized (alongside Stan).
