Go To

The Astroduck is a 1966 Looney Tunes short (6 min.) directed by Robert McKimson and starring Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales.

Daffy has just bought a run-down Mexican hacienda as a retirement home. The house, however, already has an inhabitant — Speedy, whose family has lived there for generations. Not wanting a bothersome rodent in his house, Daffy tries to get rid of Speedy, eventually resorting to dynamite, with unfortunate results.

"The Astroduck" contains examples of:

  • House Squatting: Speedy's family as lived in the run-down house for generations. Unfortunately, even though he was there first, Daffy wants him out, even refusing to listen when Speedy suggests they share the house.
  • How We Got Here: The entire cartoon is more or less an explanation for the opening credit scene, and where the title comes in.
  • Jerkass: Somewhat justified on Daffy's end, as he understandably doesn't want mice infesting his already-dilapidated house. Goes way into overdrive, however, when he goes as far as to try to blow up the entire house just to get rid of Speedy.
  • Title Drop: At the end of the cartoon, when Daffy's house is launched into space. It's the lone point in the cartoon where the title actually makes sense:
Speedy: Well, what do you know? We've got a new Astroduck!
  • Very False Advertising: Downplayed. While the realtor admits to Daffy that the hacienda is slightly run down, he grossly understates just how run down it is. The photo in its advertisement makes it appear to be in fairly decent shape. But, in reality, the house is completely falling apart.
