Western Animation / Corn On The Cop

Go To

Corn on the Cop is a 1965 Merrie Melodies short (6 min.) directed by Irv Spector and starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig.

On Halloween night, a robber disguises himself as a little old lady and goes on a crime spree. Officers Porky and Daffy are on the case, but they keep mistaking Granny for the robber and vice-versa, and Granny thinks the two cops and the robber are just children in costumes.

"Corn On the Cop" provides examples of:

  • Comedic Spanking: How Granny decides to handle the robber, who was disguised as her, just before another officer arrives to arrest him.
  • Criminal Doppelgänger: The premise of the short has a criminal disguising himself as Granny and holding up a supermarket. Policemen Porky and Daffy mistake Granny for the robber and try to arrest either her or the real robber, until Granny, fed up with all of them annoying her, clears everything up.
  • Disguised in Drag: The robber disguises himself as an old lady.
  • End of an Era: This cartoon represents a series of lasts for Warner Bros. cartoons.
    • It's the last theatrical cartoon to team Daffy and Porky together, who have been a comedy duo since 1937.
    • It's the last appearance of Porky in a theatrical cartoon (barring footage from "Robin Hood Daffy" in "Mucho Locos") until 2004. In fact, this is his only appearance during the DePatie-Freleng era.
    • It also marks the final theatrical appearance of Granny until 2003.
  • Halloween Episode: The cartoon takes place on Halloween night, which is what gives the criminal the idea to go in disguise. Granny mistakes Porky and Daffy, as well as the robber, for kids in costumes.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: At the end of the short, the robber is arrested after Granny gives him a spanking. After the other officer commends her for capturing him, Granny drags Porky and Daffy back to their precinct by their ears.
