Poppy Cat is a British Preschool Show based on a series of books by Lara Jones about a ginger kitten named Poppy who goes on a series of adventures with her friends, Alma the bunny, Zuzu the dalmatian, Mo the mouse, and Owl the owl. All the while, a badger named Egbert does everything he can to impede them on their adventures.
The series first aired in 2011 on CITV, Channel 5, and Nick Jr. in the United Kingdom and aired on Sprout in the United States. The show lasted for two seasons.
Poppy Cat provides examples of:
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Poppy wears a neckerchief around her neck and Owl wears a purple and blue hat on his head.
- Bad Ol' Badger: Downplayed in the case of Egbert as he isn't exactly vicious, but he is kind of mean to Poppy and her friends.
- Black Bead Eyes: All of the characters have these except for Owl and Gilda.
- A Dog Named "Dog": One of the main characters is an owl named "Owl".
- Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Mo wears nothing but a green and red-striped tank top that doesn't cover his lower half.
- Hiccup Hijinks: The episode "Pickle Springs" focuses on Mo getting the hiccups, so Poppy and company decide to go to the titular springs so that they can cure Mo's hiccups using a sip of pickle juice.
- Once per Episode: Before Poppy and company can begin their adventures, Poppy always says "But first, we're going to need..." before exclaiming what type of vehicle they are using to get to their destination.
- Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: "Olive Branch" is about Alma and Zuzu having an argument about the rules of a game they were playing, ultimately resulting in them refusing to speak to each other.
- Same Language Dub: There's the original British dub and there's also an American dub which has different voices for all of the characters except for Egbert and Gilda.
