Webcomic / Amanda Green, Superhuman Insurance Agent

Go To

Amanda Green, SIA is a webcomic about the ways normal people would cope with a world of superhumans, told from the perspective of Amanda Green, who is a Superhuman Insurance Agent (SIA). Amanda's not a Superhuman insurance agent, she's an agent who sells Superhuman Insurance — insurance that covers the damage caused by superheroes and supervillains alike.

New Romford is a city filled with superpeople. There are superheroes like Adonis and Speedster, supervillains like Lightning Bug and the Dinosaur Queen, and regular citizens who just happen to have superpowers who aren't into that whole "costumed vigilante" thing. So things like destroyed buildings, crushed cars and monster carcasses are all regular occurrences in New Romford, and people need to insure their property. Amanda's one of the sympathetic people who assess the damage and process your claim. Just like insurance agents in our world, our world, only with weapons and body armor.

On June 5, 2018, creator Greg Thelen died. There are no plans for continuation.

Tropes include:

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Amanda and Adonis first meet when she reads him the riot act for throwing her car at a supervillain.
  • Expy: Adonis is an obvious expy of Superman, Michelle Myers is a very deconstructive Expy of Lois Lane.
  • Hero Insurance:
    • Amanda's business only they cover villain and Kaiju damage, too.
    • A direct example occurs when Amanda yells at Adonis for throwing her car at dinosaur queen, questioning why he didn't resort to his superstrength or eyebeams first.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: Tyrannosaurus Carrie nearly eats Amanda and Miranda.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Subverted. Adonis' Secret Identity was "killed" in a highly visible and very spectacular incident. He cannot reveal his survival without giving away his superpowers. Now he's stuck being Adonis ("Donnie" to his friends) full-time and feeling a bit alienated because it makes it hard to associate with regular people.
  • Straight Gay: Jim, a middle-aged family man who is not in the closet and exhibits absolutely no stereotypical behaviors. Learning he's gay teaches Carrie she's not as open-minded as she thought she was.
  • Secret Identity: Inverted: Adonis' civilian identity was "killed", forcing him to live as Adonis full-time. He finds the experience both liberating and a bit alienating.
  • There Are No Therapists: Subverted. Superheroes all see therapists because even superheroes have difficulty coping with some of the awful things they're forced to deal with.
