Ever wonder what's goes on the minds of the Heroic Mime? Ever wonder what would happen if the Heroic Mime could actually talk? Well look no further than watching the "What if_Talked?" series.

The series is produced by Press Start to Laugh.

"What if Steve Talked in Minecraft" is found here.

The series contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Most of these 'What ifs' portray the main characters alot jerkish or a lot more than they usually are.
    • Downplayed. In their respective games, Wander and Isaac are men that are absolutely loyal to their love interest/spouse. In the "What if" version, while they are still loyal but they are willing to cut and run when things get TOO out of hand.
  • A God Am I: Once people start worshipping Doom Guy, it doesn't take long for him to let his new position of "Doom God" go to his head.
  • Avengers Assemble: Doom Guy Played With this in his Pre-Asskicking One-Liner.
Doom Guy: "TEAM DOOM GOD! Disassemble...Them!"
  • Badass Boast: To the Icon of Sin at the end of the original Doom Eternal campaign:
Doom Guy: "I’m protecting this planet and its people. You f**k with them, you f**k with me. So the next time you feel like crawling out of your hole, do us both a favor and stay dead. You won’t ever win. Because I’m. F**king. Doom. God."
  • Berserk Button: Do not deprive Doom Guy (sorry, Doom God) of his Super Shotgun.
  • Brain Bleach: Arthur's brother loses his lunch whenever he watches commercials promoting products that are obviously disgusting.
  • Butt-Monkey: Anyone that isn't DoomGuy is this (although even he has his unlucky moments), especially Phillips. Poor Phillips.
  • Catharsis Factor: In Poppy Playtime, the protagonist takes great pleasure in hitting all the mini-Wuggys in the face during Whack-a-Wuggy. He's actually disappointed when it comes to an end.
  • Comically Small Bribe: The protagonist of Poppy Playtime is mostly concerned with getting his final paycheck of $50 that he admits will likely just pay for a few months of Netflix he'll never watch (though he also decides to tack on an extra couple thousand for all the handiwork he has to do to progress). It isn't until the serious and dramatic revelations at the end of episode 3 that it stops being his primary motivator.
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: Huggy Wuggy has this in contrast to their monstrous, hulking form.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The protagonist of Poppy Playtime hides from Mommy Long Legs in a deactivated incinerator... and then realizes that he'll be screwed if she decides to turn it on. Luckily, she doesn't.
  • Fluffy the Terrible:
    • Arthur names a Leviathan near the Abandon Ship, Benjamin or Benny for short.
    • He then calls a Threatening Shark the same name and then later for the other ones, Benjamin Jr/ Benny Jr. Although Trillian calls them Bruce.
  • Foreshadowing: An early notice to Arthur's insanity is when he changes pronouns from I to we.
  • General Failure: The Captain/Commander is a complete and utter buffoon whose poor leadership manages to get his ships/tanks destroyed and nearly have his crew killed, at least the speaking ones. The only reason he isn't kicked out or fired is due to the massive blackmail he has on the higher-ups.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: In the Subnautica videos, Arthur starts to go insane over time due to his isolation, culminating in him having multiple personality disorder.
  • Hand Wave: Since the series is heavily comedic, Press Start will use these to shrug off any inconsistencies that might arise between himself and any revelations about the protagonists he voices.
    • In Garten of Banban, the multiple notes you find that start with "Dear Mommy" imply the protagonist is a female, but he simply remarks that the kid will be disappointed when a dad shows up instead.
    • Another Banban character remarks on them being a Heroic Mime, and he says "No, you're just deaf."
    • The voice used for Huggy Wuggy is drastically different from his canon voice. A pinned comment from PS states that he missed the button where you can hear a snippet of his voice. But even without that explanation, the fact that almost every character from Poppy Playtime has canonically undergone serious Sanity Slippage could very easily explain the voice change.
  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: Isaac is exasperated that the other characters think he can make it through the Necromorph-infested ship like he's some undead alien exterminator when his actual job is being an ENGINEER.
  • Irony:
    • Arthur really, REALLY hates fish AND water. So his two water-based predicaments makes it this.
    • Both Arthur and his brother think that the other is doing well in their respective jobs, not knowing that they are suffering too.
  • The Load: The Hunter sees the Handler as this for her knack in getting into trouble.
Hunter: You know I'm serious considering letting it(monster) eat you.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The protagonist of Poppy Playtime was primarily motivated by getting his paycheck, even during the Nightmare Sequence featured near the end of the game, and remained talkative and energetic when dealing with the various Living Toys in the factory. However, when witnessing the horrific massacre of the employees in the Hour of Joy tape, he is much less talkatative and more serious, even deciding he doesn't want the paycheck after all.
  • Parental Favoritism: That's what Arthur's brother believe to be the case.
EKO: We're really proud of you. We don't have a favorite.
Arthur's Brother: Mom says the same thing.
  • Pet the Dog: While this version of Doom Guy is a narcissistic Blood Knight, he's at least appreciative towards the intern, even giving him the title "Intern Guy".
  • Pungeon Master: Some of the characters, notably Doom Guy and Isaac Clarke does this.
  • Running Gag:
    • In "What if Doom Guy Talked?", Doom Slayer always makes a point to tell everyone about his love for Cheetos. He finally gets them at the end of the Ancients Gods portion after being sealed away.
    • Teleporting hurts, as several protagonists complain.
    • Responding to a "You!" Exclamation with a cheerful "Me!"
    • Several of the characters would say "Consequences be damned" whenever they do something incredibly dangerous.
    • Some characters start referencing Spider-Man whenever they use their grapples to swing and climb.
    • The captain/commander cannot remember Johnson's name. Johnson uses this to his advange when the latter wants to charge him for mutiny.
    • The protagonist from Poppy Playtime will recount Noodle Incidents where a fellow employee, Danny suffers gruesome fates at Playtime Co., with Danny being the employee shown in the VHS tutorials for the GrabPack and its hands.
  • Shared Universe: Several of the "What ifs" take place in a singular continuity.
  • Silicon Snarker: During the space station level, Samus's AI malfunctions and starts to talk back at her throughout the video.
  • Something We Forgot: At the end of "What if You (And Huggy) Talked in Project: Playtime?", after Carter asks the Captain where Johnson, the scene transitions back to Johnson who is revealed to be still back at the factory and is fighting for his life against the horde of mini-Huggy Wuggys.
  • Split Personality:
    • To cope with his isolation and hopelessness of his predicament, Arthur created multiple personalities. Art is hyper-aggressive Blood Knight, Arty is whiny and annoying Shrinking Violet and Arrr is a Pirate. Then comes a new personality who is a snob and thinks he's mayor. In "What if Stanley Talked in Stanley Parable?", it's revealed Arthur (Stanley Parable) had been this way before joining Alterra.
    • Trillian has a another personality called Becky who unlike the Jerkass former is kinder and more rational.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Nemesis. Yes, the massive, ugly zombie brute that chases Jill Valentine around, punches, incinerates, blasts and stabs her only wants to have a date her.
  • Throwing Down the Gauntlet: Doom Guy to the Dark Lord at the end of The Ancient Gods Part 2:
Doom Guy: Hey! Dark Lord! I'M HERE! Get out here so I can finally administer that enema! Could you hurry this up? I got some Cheetos that need eatin'! Oh there you are! Finally! Nice suit! Compensating much? That's okay, no one's gonna care how inadequate you are when you're missing a head!
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Having severe case of arachnophobia, Justin Case is not happy facing off the Spider Witch and Charles.
