OniGiri, or Giri for short, is a Chinese-Canadian Virtual YouTuber known for hosting cooking streams using a Chroma Key setup to impose her VTuber avatar, with only a set of gloves providing the movement body.

Tropes:

• A-Cup Angst: Despite her busty model, OniGiri is actually more modestly endowed in real life (appearing even less so owing to her height); she bonds with Yuzu over this.
• Basement-Dweller: Sort of. Giri isn't a NEET, but she doesn't have a leg to stand upon when she criticizes her brother for burping on-screen when she herself bathes once a week.
• Berserk Button: Calling her flat-chested, commenting on her cooking skills (e.g., burning stuff), and worst of all, calling her a grandma. Giri's genuine Pathetically Weak status only adds to the last one.
• Butt-Monkey: OniGiri is often the center of her chat's put-downs from time to time. On the other hand, Onibro is treated like a demigod.
• Big Little Brother: Onibro is at least 6 feet tall, as confirmed by Giri.
• Big Sister Instinct: It is unknown who exactly is the older sibling (fans suspect Onibro is the younger sibling given his behavior tendencies), but during one of Onibro's escapades, he accidentally pinched a nerve on his rhomboids during a workout, causing him to spasm in pain for a few days. Giri immediately freaked out, thinking he had a heart attack, and proceeded to call an ambulance, only to be given the diagnosis on what actually happened, with predictable results.
• Brother–Sister Team: In a pretty rare and unusual format for VTubers. Despite appearances, OniGiri isn't a one-girl show; Onibro forms an essential half of her content, being the silent judge of her food and her personal camera and tech person.
• Canine Companion: PomPom, an elderly Pomeranian lady dog, was this to Giri. Expect Chat to kneel in worship at hearing her wheezing or appearing on stream.
• Commonality Connection: With Yuzu, bonding over their angst over their small chest size.
• Cool Big Sis: If Giri really is the older sibling, in which case, being given what is essentially free amazing-looking meals to rate is a dream for the likes of Onibro.
• Cordon Bleugh Chef: Just because Giri can cook doesn't necessarily mean what some of her collabs end up helping her cook are good. Just ask Filian, whose idea of chicken nuggets caused Onibro to suddenly decide on going grocery shopping mid-stream—or Rainhoe, who has Giri simply slice up a banana, mash it, and microwave it, for a start.
• Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: At the start of this video, Henya from VShojo flies around Giri like a plastic bag in the wind. It takes Giri a few moments to realize that Henya is actually stuck to her tail, causing Henya to panic.
• Feeling Their Age: Giri is already one of the oldest VTubers (Well...'old' for VTubers standards) easily rivaling Matarakan, Zen and Marine in terms of age, with old jokes being flung at Giri from her chat from time to time. But it also crops up physically as well, from Giri mentioning her growing white hair, to her infamous Japan walk tour and bonding with Zen over frequent shared memory loss. She is called granny by chat for a reason.
• Food Porn: OniGiri's entire shtick which separates her from more conventional VTubers.
• Fourth-Date Marriage: Played for Laughs during her collab with Neuro-sama, when Neuro, somehow thinking that Giri called her her girlfriend, took this remark and ran with it.
• Friend to All Children: During Bao's drunk tirade, Giri revealed that she actually likes to take care of kids.
• Gentle Giant: She is among the tallest VTubers known, on par with Juniper Actias. And yet, she is one of the most sensitive, as scolding is out of the left field for her, even when role-playing.
• Hopeless with Tech: Giri has proven to be quite clueless with tech, requiring Onibro to assist her.
• Hypocrite: Criticizes Onibro for being 'gross' whenever he burps on-screen... despite taking a shower once a week.
• Lethal Chef: Obviously not given the central theme of her content, but nevertheless played for laughs by chat, with regular references to when she burned rice. Onigiri will often rant at chat when they gradually and snidely infer her stream guest is a better cook than she is for any number of contrived reasons. Onigiri herself will occasionally lean into this:
  Onigiri (upon doing something klutzy or when a guest points out something missing): Professional chef, by the way.
  • She does have her moments, though; during her cooking collab with Matara, Onigiri intended to prepare some oysters—without having an oyster shucking knife to hand. So Onibro lends her his screwdriver … which Onigiri proceeds to wedge into the oyster with a hammer. This ends up not only cracking the shell into shards, but also, as Onigiri realizes too late, leaves paint chips inside the oyster itself.
• Like Brother and Sister: Onibro has this relationship with Bao. For good reason.
• Lovable Sex Maniac: She has an ahegao toggle and is not above making very perverted comments. For instance, she collaborated with Kson and Nazuna on learning some perverted English and Japanese phrases, and her and Nazuna's antics are enough to stun Kson, of all people, into silence. Also, she and Kson jokingly accused Henya of being prejudiced towards horny people, all while Melody was silently laughing her head off in the sidelines.
• Mistaken Age: Intentionally invoked by her chat no less, when they constantly "mistake" her for an old lady in disguise.
• Pathetically Weak: Despite her tall physique, Giri was exposed to be incredibly unfit during her Japan trip, to the shock of Rainhoe and Amazonian Beauty Numi. For context, when walking in a straight line, Giri's heart rate monitor jumped to 126, which Numi stated she gets when on the treadmill. It is even worse regarding staircases, with her heart rate jumping to an astounding 155 during Akihabara.
• Punny Name: An onigiri is a compacted ball of sticky rice, often stuffed with fillings ranging from assorted seafood or meat to pickled fruits and vegetables. The first half, "Oni", is a creature in Japanese folklore akin to a demon, and Giri's models generally sport cutesy demonic theme, always sporting horns and fangs.
• Spoiled Sweet: Given his fear of cops leading to him being dependent on his sister to drive him around, his inability to properly recognize fruit, being given a 'free' Japan trip from Giri, his being constantly fed by his sister, and his generally goofy behavior, Onibro definitely gives off the impression of a pampered little brother.
• Statuesque Stunner: Giri is actually one of the taller female VTubers out there, if her recent 2023 Anime Convention was any indication, she easily towered over Numi, Tricky, and Rainhoe. It is also demonstrated during any of the fleshtuber cooking collaborations (including with her boss at geex+, Meilyne) she's had when other vtubers have visited Japan. Height wise, she is easily on par with Juniper Actias.
  • Just to give some context on how tall she is. When she went to Japan, the average Japanese men only reached up to her ''chest''. Even though Japan's height isn't on the tall end, for a woman, that is impressive.
• Strange Minds Think Alike: If her interactions with Nerissa Ravencroft is anything to go by, these two relate with each other way too much.
• Supreme Chef: Any Giri's Kitchen episode or stream can be expected to end in Food Porn of some kind.
• Team Mom: If her frequent interactions with other VTubers are any indications, that is what her general persona is like. Numi outright states that she has a "Motherly temperament" and is often, the only responsible one during a sleepover.
• The Quiet One: Onibro doesn't use his voice at all. The only way he communicates is through superchat on stream; even then, it is uncommon. The only time you hear his voice is when he burps on stream, much to his sister's chagrin.
