Web Video / Cinemare Sins

Go To

On April 30, 2013, an Upstate New York brony named LittleShyFIM created a fan made parody of CinemaSins for the pilot episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. This video was surprisingly well received, and it inspired him to create a Cinema Sins video for every MLP:FIM episode, including all My Little Pony: Equestria Girls movies, and some moderately good fanfics and MLP-related web animations (like Double Rainboom, Dusk's Dawn and My Little Dashie). Oh, and the pre-Rainbow Rocks short "Music to My Ears", a tongue-in-cheek appraisal of Newborn Cuties, and theme.

What resulted from this idea came one of the longest-running Cinema Sins parodies, and quite possibly one of the greatest. Don't mistake it for a Shallow Parody; it's more of an Affectionate Parody than anything. The sins are less serious, the jokes are for the most part G to PG rated, LittleShyFIM takes a gentler tone while narrating, and there are a lot more splices of other media. All this makes for a very unique experience. With its consistent schedule, fantastic humor, and high-quality editing, This web video series is among the most known and loved among the brony community.

Well, what are you waiting for? Take a look!

Tropes picked apart by the Everything Wrong With series:

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: invoked Lampshaded. LittleShy points out the absurdity of naming a town after a body part, giving Footville as an example. He then points out that such a town does exist by showing a Google Maps overhead of Footville, Wisconsin.
  • Berserk Button: Photo Finish's camera is this for LittleShy, who is an editor.
  • Ear Worm: Apparently, a song being too catchy to count as a sin counts as a sin.
  • Glurge: invokedLittleShyFIM calls out Snowdrop (2013) for doing this.
  • Karma Houdini: In EWW Owl's Well that Ends Well:
LittleShyFIM: Trespassion, Robbery. Destruction of private property. There really was no consequence for any of this, was there? *ding*
  • Literal-Minded: EWW The Cutie Mark Chronicles:
Pinkie: You should hear the story of how I got my cutie mark. It's a gem!
    Littleshy: No, it's balloons. *ding*
  • Logic Bomb: In EWW Baby Cakes, when the Cake twins make Pinkie Pie cry, LittleShy says that anyone who makes Pinkie cry should be punched in the face, but you can't punch a baby, so such a paradox is deserving of a sin.
  • Pun: LittleShyFIM makes these constantly. Often accentuated with Patrick's memetic boo.
  • Running Gag:
    • Many videos has a freeze-frame of a random making a goofy face accentuated with a voice clip of them saying a random word. For Twilight, it's "Books!", for Rainbow Dash, it's "Egghead", for Applejack, it's "Apples!", and for Apple Bloom, it's "Buy some apples!". Celestia occasionally gets the “troll face” meme over her face when he thinks she’s trolling.
    • At the beginning of every episode:
    LittleShyFIM: Theme. *ding*
    • From Season 4 onwards:
    LittleShyFIM: These [adjective] wings. *ding*
    • Season 5 doesn't have "These [adjective] wings", but notes the Flipping the Bird nature of the castle.
    • From the beginning of Season 6, he includes a Starlight Glimmer name reference in the beginning instead.
    • From EWW My Little Pony: The Movie, whenever another Hasbro product is referenced:
    LittleShyFIM: Because Hasbro movie. *ding*
    • Some nicknames pop up every now and again, such as "Sun Butt" (Princess Celestia), "Book Horse" (Twilight) and "Honest orange apple horse" or some variation thereof (Applejack).
    • Occasionally, “Buy our toys!” relating to Hasbro using the show as a merchandise sales vehicle.
    • Every time he sees it:
    LittleShyFIM: lens flare *ding*
  • Self-Deprecation: LittleShyFIM mocks Big Macintosh in EWW Lesson Zero for playing with dolls. Then we have a shot of real-life LittleShyFIM with his massive collection of pony dolls.
    LittleShyFIM: (apprehensively) They're action figures.
  • Shown Their Work: LittleShyFIM is an editor, and many of his sins have to do with poor editing in My Little Pony.
    • Taken to new heights in EWW Suited For Success, where he overlays his dialogue over Fluttershy's famous rant explaining why Fluttershy's rant is irrelevant.
  • The Stinger: After each videos' end, there is some funny edited scenes from the episode reviewed.
  • Take That!: With most of the EWW fan-parodies, LittleShyFIM adds a disclaimer reminding the viewers that this is a fan-parody of Cinema Sins and should not be taken seriously. He then commends the hard work put into said animation. The one animation that he doesn't do this for? Dusk's Dawn.
  • Take That, Audience!: LittleShyFIM makes these jokes constantly, a shining example being Sin 28, Everything Wrong with Canterlot Wedding Part 1:
LittleShyFIM This is far more adorable when done by ponies. I'm looking at you, convention-goers.
