"Nothing will stop me from having the perfect perfect school year!"
Raven

SPARKLE ON RAVEN: The Life of DrillGirl is a YouTube series that began in 2022, created by "Production F.C." (a large group of artists and voice actors led by Robby Fregosi of the ClownHouse web collective) and produced by "TaV123" (a cryptic YouTube channel called "these are videos, one two three"). It acts as a parody of Fanime, similar to Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls — however, where that series is more of a Stealth Parody, SPARKLE ON RAVEN is an Affectionate Parody, openly embracing the amateur nature and making no effort to hide the silliness of it all.

The series follows a tomboyish high school student named Raven. Since she failed all her tests last year, she's determined to do better this year, even though that might be difficult with her new night job as a magical girl. Luckily, her best friends are in her new class: Berrycream Frosting, whose heart is as sweet as her name, and Dark Shi, a gloomy loner who doesn't say much. Raven has to juggle everyday life with being a magical girl as bullies and fighters from the school's many clubs try to ruin her day... but nothing will stop her from having the perfect perfect school year, not even the mysterious Room 424. Of course, that's all a side dish to DrillGirl, the real star of the show.

Reflecting the often-inconsistent nature of many fanime, the animation style changes very often thanks to the many artists, with the only real linking factor being that it's all drawn in MS Paint. Even the actors' microphone quality varies wildly. Despite that, the series is presented with a steadfast earnestness; it plays around with anime tropes and clichés while forging its own identity at the same time.

A playlist containing all of the series' episodes can be found here, as well as a playlist of songs used for the series here. The series also has its own wiki, which can be found here.

★☆SPARKLE ON RAVEN: The Tropes of DrillGirl☆★

  • Aborted Arc: The topic of Raven's monologue in episode 1, keeping her grades up while balancing her night job as a magical girl, suggests a Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World plot structure. Her night job never comes up again, and neither do her grades, with the rest of the series instead having a heavier Slice of Life focus. The creators have lampshaded this at least once, calling it the kind of thing that a writer would put in if they didn't expect more episodes to be made.
  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: In the middle of the otherwise action-packed episode 4, there's a quiet and dramatic scene when Raven and Shinji talk to each other on the roof. While there are still plenty of jokes, the scene features no music, nuanced performances from the voice actors, and plenty of complex shots with lingering pauses. Storywise, the scene adds an element of intrigue to Shinji's character by implying his history with Lord Albert Tensai.
  • Affectionate Parody: To late-2000s fanime as a whole. It's clear that the creators admire amateur animation even when they're poking fun at it.
  • All for Nothing: After Raven spends the entirety of episode 3 attempting to save Cooters from being closed down and apparently succeeding, the episode ends by revealing that Cooters closed down anyway. They even hold a funeral for it.
  • Americasia: The show's setting is a deliberate parody of how fanime often assume Japan is more like America than it really is. Raven and her friends seem to attend a Japanese-style high school with the requisite school uniforms and clubs, and several characters (such as Slash and the old lady in episode 2) are seen wearing kimono, but the setting otherwise has very western styling, such as Cooters being a real Floridian restaurant and the local currency being explicitly referred to as dollars. This even extends to the characters' names, with Ryan Sasuke and Albert Tensai having American first names and Japanese last names. Episode 5 goes to the logical conclusion and features a hybrid Canadian-Japanese flag on the wall of the Collectors Club, suggesting that the series literally is set in a combination of North America and Japan.
  • Animation Bump: While a lot of the series features Limited Animation, several parts are animated surprisingly smoothly, mostly in the fight scenes.
    • The scene in episode 1 where Raven punches Ryan Sasuke into the sun sticks out, as it's the first instance of actual motion, and even features smears.
    • Raven saying "Wasn't planning on it!" in episode 2 has proper lip sync, a rarity in the series.
    • In episode 4, the scene where Raven defeats Locke with a hammer features fluid motion and a moving camera.
  • Animesque: The series is an American-Canadian coproduction that's clearly inspired by anime, taking largely from Magical Girl plot tropes and also featuring anime-inspired designs (notably how Ryan Sasuke and Shinji Yuu respectively resemble Bakugo Katsuki and Shinji Ikari) and Japanese Visual Arts Tropes (such as Sweat Drops and Cross-Popping Veins).
  • April Fools' Day: In 2024, "The Life of Raven ~ ★☆SPARKLE ON DRILLGIRL☆★" was released, a partial remake of episode 1 featuring DrillGirl in Raven's place. It turns out to be All Just a Dream.
  • Arc Words: The phrase "I love this school! I want to live here!" crops up repeatedly. In episode 2, DrillGirl says it first, when she throws a dodgeball into the school and causes it to explode. In episode 4, Locke says it while he's beating up Raven, and in episode 5, it's part of the lyrics of the song Strawberry sings, "Lunchtime Fun".
  • Art Shift: Every now and then, the characters shift into a completely different style. When Raven and Slash confront each other in episode 2, for example, the art suddenly becomes a lot higher-quality and more angular.
  • As Himself:
    • Parodied with Omen, who is credited as being voiced by themselves. They're voiced using text-to-speech software.
    • Scout appears under her previous name, Chase, at the end of episode 1 through green-screening.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • In episode 2, a montage shows Slash cutting things while Raven is going about her day, to disastrous results. In the middle of the montage, there's a lingering scene of Raven helping an old lady cross the street... and then it jumps to the next scene.
    • In episode 3, Raven laments that they didn't raise enough money to save Cooters, when suddenly she hears sleigh bells nearby. We see reindeer, and something crashes through the side of the building. It turns out to be Chupachups the Christmas Alien.
  • Bathos: Albert Tensai's dramatic speech as he's defeated is underscored with Gibbons wailing like a baby.
  • Beach Episode: Episode 3 starts out as a beach episode before becoming a Christmas Episode, apparently because the school's "winter break" takes place during summer.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Happens twice in episode 4. The first time, when Raven is fighting Paul Phoenix, Berrycream and Dark Shi come in to hold him down, giving Raven enough time to escape. The second time, Berrycream and Dark Shi come in to distract Locke when Raven is cornered by him, allowing her to hit him with a giant hammer.
  • Blade Lock: Raven and Slash lock blades at the end of episode 2. Raven ends up winning by cutting Slash's sword in half.
  • Bland-Name Product: The owner of Cooters, Milton Shake, is apparently in debt with "Michaelsoft", a parody of Microsoft.
  • Boss Subtitles: Every new student introduced in episode 4 has their name and club pop up on screen when they first appear (for example, "SHINO BEE - 4th Period Ninja Club" and "CRABELLA - 4th Period Pirate Club").
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • Raven starts episode 1 by addressing the audience directly to explain the premise.
    • Later in episode 1, Ryan Sasuke tells Raven to meet him on the roof "after the cafeteria scene".
  • Breather Episode: Episode 3 is a lighthearted Christmas Episode with no real villain and a feel-good atmosphere.
  • Brick Joke:
    • In episode 1, when Chupachups appears, she asks Raven if she wants to smoke weed with her, and then the scene smash cuts as she coughs her lungs out. In the rooftop scene, when we go to a closeup on Raven, her eyes are visibly pink; apparently she agreed.
    • In episode 3, Milton Shake uses his one wish to make sure everyone has unique passwords that are different for every website. Later, when everyone is showing up to eat at Cooters, one person yells "WHO THE HELL CHANGED THE PASSWORD ON MY PHONE?!"
    • Earlier in episode 3, Dark Shi sculpts a tank made of ice during a fundraising ice-sculpting contest. At the very end of the episode, DrillGirl bursts in riding the tank.
DrillGirl: They let me keep the ice tank!
      Ryan Sasuke: Holy shit!
  • Captain Ersatz:
    • In episode 3, Strawberry makes a "sandman" who comes to life after she puts a hat on it. He looks like Frosty the Snowman and speaks in the voice of Homer Simpson.
    • Zero is just Goku with brown hair, which is even mistakenly colored black in a few shots.
  • Casting Gag: Episode 5 introduces Dawn, who has an obvious crush on Raven. Their voice actresses (Penny and Dollip) are dating in real life.
  • Cast of Snowflakes: Though relatively small at first, the cast of the series has grown quite large, and no two characters look alike thanks to being a collaborative effort with dozens of artists contributing their own designs.
  • Censored for Comedy: Ai Seeyu mentioning Raven's last name, address, and birthdate is censored out in episode 4.
  • Cerebus Retcon: The school down the road blowing up is treated as a one-off joke in episode 1. Episode 4 reveals that the explosion is the entire reason the series' main villain, the Room 424 World Domination Club, even exists. Lord Albert Tensai was being kept in the school's basement, and awoke from his 1,000 year slumber when it blew up.
  • Christmas Episode: Episode 3, "DrillGirl Saves Santa Claus!", takes place on "Christmas Eve Eve" (which means Christmas is tomorrow). Apparently the series takes place in the southern hemisphere, since Christmas is during the summer, though there's a comically confusing mix of tropical and wintery elements: "We're all bundled up but it's a hundred degrees!" Despite what the name implies, it's not a Saving Christmas plot.
  • Cold Open: Episode 5 starts out with an extra scene before the title sequence, where Berrycream Frosting wakes up and gets ready for the day before realizing that her bell is missing and she's stuck as a bunny.
  • Creative Closing Credits: The credits feature chibi versions of the characters singing real songs while concept art of the characters is shown in the background. The characters and songs featured are different in each episode.List of songs
  • Cutaway Gag: In episode 5, Berrycream wails about not being normal like the other students. We cut away to the class bake sale, where — in an immediate contradiction — DrillGirl rings someone up for $1,700.38 and then Omen bursts through the wall with a plate of sweets.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Half-House ~ ★☆SPARKLE ON DARK SHI☆★" is focused on Dark Shi, and it's a surprisingly serious episode focusing on Dark Shi's anxiety, depicted in an abstract and striking manner.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Raven befriends both Ryan Sasuke and Slash, who were antagonizing her in their debut episodes, by defeating them in a fight. While Ryan Sasuke maintains a disaffected tsundere attitude, Slash realizes the error of his ways because he was being led astray by Room 424.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The plot of episode 2 closes with Raven, Berrycream, and Dark Shi laughing after Slash says "Wait, you mean to tell me you've never clashed blades before?"
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Nobody blinks an eye seeing an alien, a werewolf, a living fruit, a bee ninja, a crab pirate, and an imp attending Raven's high school.
  • Faux Horrific: Everyone in episode 5 treats Berrycream's adorable bunny form as some kind of horrifying beast, Berrycream herself included.
  • Freudian Couch: Raven lays back on a couch as she vents to the guidance counselor in episode 2, even though her problem (being targeted by another student) isn't psychological at all, and guidance counselors usually aren't therapists.
  • Gilligan Cut: In episode 4, Raven — tired of so many students fighting her — stands with her hands on her hips as she says "If I'm lucky, maybe tomorrow everyone will forget I'm super popular, and just leave me alone." The scene cuts to her in the same pose, wearing her magical girl outfit, as a montage shows her fighting with a bunch of different students.
  • High-Pressure Blood: Slash's sword somehow spurts out high-pressure blood when Raven cuts it in half.
  • Homage: Episode 3's credits are a shot-by-shot recreation of the credits of Bonus Stage, using black-and-white Flash animation rather than full-color MS Paint animation and also featuring the same song, "Shed Some Skin".
  • Hurl It into the Sun: Raven punches Ryan Sasuke into the sun in episode 1. He's fine by the next episode.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: In episode 4, when Raven asks where Room 424 is located:
Shinji: Its location is shrouded in mystery, but some believe it's somewhere on the fourth floor of the school, next to the men's bathroom.
Raven: ...Is that the one on the right—
Shinji: The one on the right, yeah.
  • Info Dump: Episode 1 has Raven, upon seeing Dark Shi, immediately giving a long speech listing off miscellaneous facts about her, like her shoe size and her liking classic rock. She goes on for over half a minute, then when she's finished, Dark Shi's only reply is "Yeah."
  • In Medias Res: Episode 4 opens in the middle of a fight between Raven and Wolf Girl.
  • Insert Song: There are two original songs in the series so far: "Sparkle On Forever", which is sung in episode 3 while the characters are celebrating Christmas, and "Lunchtime Fun", which Strawberry sings during the school's talent show in episode 5. Notably, while "Lunchtime Fun" is a cover of an existing song ("Invincible Rainbow Arrow" from AI: The Somnium Files), "Sparkle On Forever" is completely original.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Ryan Sasuke challenges Raven to a fight over his seat, Strawberry says that Raven is nice and would never accept. Raven cuts her off mid-sentence and agrees to fight him.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: In episode 1, when Ryan Sasuke insults Raven by calling her "four-eyes", she pipes back at him while suddenly wearing Opaque Nerd Glasses, then quickly takes them off. Later, he calls her "football-head", and she's immediately depicted with a football-shaped head.
  • Japanese School Club: Raven's opponents are from the school's various clubs. They range from normal things like the yearbook committee and the martial arts club, to slightly absurd ones like the "afterschool blades club" and "varsity darts club", to patently ridiculous ones like the "4th period pirate club" and "4th period ninja club". The main antagonist of the series, Room 424, is a world domination club.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence:
    • At the end of episode 1, Raven punches Ryan Sasuke into the sun as he's in the middle of taunting her.
    • The sandman in episode 3 gets killed by Dark Shi snowboarding through him while he's wishing everyone a merry Christmas.
  • Kitschy Themed Restaurant: Cooters in episode 3 is based on a real-life restaurant in Florida, which features a kitschy beach theme. Everyone in the show loves it, and mourns it when it's gone.
  • Limited Animation: Since it's made to look like an old MS Paint animation, it's more like a slideshow most of the time, with most characters not even having Mouth Flaps.
  • Lonely Piano Piece: Episode 5 features "Sad Song" from Super Mario RPG when Berrycream is crying about being stuck in her bunny form, parodying its common usage in YouTube videos whenever sad music is needed.
  • Long List:
    • Raven rattles off a long list of Dark Shi's attributes during her Info Dump in episode 1.
    • The Cooters waitress in episode 3 lists off various menu items before Raven cuts her off and says that they've been to the restaurant before.
    • The list of clubs at the cultural festival in episode 5 is so long that the list spills out off-screen when Dark Shi opens it up, causing Raven to give an Aside Glance to the camera.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • In episode 5, Dawn explains that the school's Lost and Found was absorbed into Kipp's Collectors Club due to some obscure technicality, meaning that the Lost and Found is effectively powerless to stop Kipp from taking whatever he wants.
    • In the same episode, every student that enters the Collectors Club room gets one try at the pachinko machine. While Raven initially asks for three tries, but backpedals to two when she remembers Berrycream can't be seen, Berrycream is still entitled to a try on the pachinko machine, getting the trio another chance after Raven and Dark Shi use up their tries.
  • Made of Explodium: The schools in this universe explode easily; first the school down the road blew up sometime before episode 1, then Raven's school explodes in episode 2 when DrillGirl punts a dodgeball into it, then it explodes again in the same episode when Raven fails to disarm a bomb.
  • Medium Blending:
    • The opening features live action footage underneath the three main characters being introduced: a train station for Raven, a flower blooming for Berrycream Frosting, and a skateboarder wiping out for Dark Shi.
    • Parts of "★☆SPARKLE ON DARK SHI☆★" are depicted in live action with the usual MS Paint animation overlaid.
    • Omen is a 3D model and is voiced by a text-to-speech software. The getaway truck they drive in episode 3 is also in 3D.
    • Scout, at the time known as Chase, appears as herself at the end of episode 1, and is portrayed by being green-screened into the animation.
  • Monster of the Week: Lampshaded by Albert Tensai in episode 4, who declares that he intends to keep sending "one-star students" after Raven at a rate of one per week. Gibbons questions why he can't just send all of them at once, so Tensai decides to send all of the one-star students after Raven (to which Gibbons clarifies that this isn't what he meant).
  • Mourning an Object:
    • The credits of episode 2 show Slash mourning his sword, which is cut in half by Raven. It turns out it's an Animate Inanimate Object, though; it was bleeding profusely when Raven cut it, and then it wakes up at the funeral.
    • The main characters all mourn Cooters shutting down at the end of episode 3 with a funeral, complete with an in-universe In Memoriam card showing up. invoked
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Raven can change her magical girl wand into a sword, a dartboard shield, or a hammer when the situation calls for it. She seemingly forgets she can until her fight with Slash in episode 2, when Berrycream and Dark Shi remind her that she's in a sword fight.
  • New Transfer Student: Exaggerated. Everyone at the school down the road had to transfer into Raven's school because it blew up.
  • No Name Given:
    • Ryan Sasuke's name is never mentioned in episode 1, only being listed in the credits. It's lampshaded in episode 2, where Berrycream finally mentions it and Dark Shi replies "Oh, was that his name?"
    • Kipp is not named within episode 5, only in the credits, despite being prominent as the antagonist of the episode.
  • Not Me This Time: The first place Raven and Dark Shi check for Berrycream's bell in episode 5 is Room 424, but Tensai has nothing to do with its disappearance since he was more preoccupied with converting the club into a maid café for the cultural festival.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: DrillGirl saves Santa Claus at the end of episode 3. We don't know how it went down, since we followed Raven saving Cooters for the whole episode.
  • Phrase Catcher:
    • Whenever Raven asks someone to clarify their intent, they always reply "Wouldn't you like to know, Little Miss Popular?" She starts to get annoyed by it as she clarifies that, yes, she would like to know.
    • Whenever Albert Tensai's full name is mentioned, it's immediately followed by a clarification that "tensai" means "genius".
  • Running Gag:
    • The door to Room 424 gets destroyed a lot — Slash cuts it down in episode 2, then Raven kicks it down in episode 4, then she kicks it down again in episode 5 (and it's visibly taped together from the last time it was broken).
    • In episode 5, the pachinko balls take longer to get down to the bottom of the pachinko board every time one is dropped.
  • Retraux: The series presents itself in the style of late-2000s web videos; the uploads are deliberately rendered in 480p for authenticity to the period being invoked.
  • Rotoscoping:
    • Berrycream pulling out a butterfly knife in episode 2 is rotoscoped from the Spy in Team Fortress 2. It's Played for Laughs, as the camera angle switches awkwardly to accommodate for the animation being from a first-person perspective.
    • The scene of Raven dodging Dartman's darts in episode 4 is rotoscoped from a scene of Madoka dodging wheels from Puella Magi Madoka Magica; "LIKE A BOSS" shows up for a single frame at the end of it, referencing a widely-circulated gif of the scene.
    • Part of Strawberry's scene as an idol singer in episode 5 is rotoscoped from "Fukkireta", an animation of Kasane Teto bobbing her head that was a popular meme in the late 2000s.
  • Saving Christmas: Subverted in episode 3, which is called "DrillGirl Saves Santa Claus!"; the actual plot is that Raven wants to save her local beach bar after the owner, Milton Shake, reveals he doesn't have enough money to keep it open for Christmas. DrillGirl ends up saving Christmas off-screen, incidental to the whole thing.
  • Saving the Orphanage: Parodied in episode 3, where Raven and her friends try to save a local beach bar, Cooters, from being closed down due to a lack of business and the owner being heavily indebted to Michaelsoft. They don't want to save it because it's culturally significant or because it's being taken by a greedy developer — it's because they really want their Christmas Crab Legs. Everyone else seems on board with the idea, to the point that they raise $357,000. This isn't enough to keep Cooters from closing, and even when they receive a Christmas miracle, the owner spends it on Internet security instead. Luckily, when everyone else shows up to have their Christmas Crab Legs, this ends up being the final push to keep Cooters open for another month — maybe even two! ...And then it's shut down anyway. Thankfully, a Cooters food truck is seen in episode 5, suggesting that their efforts didn't go totally to waste.
  • School Festival: Episode 5 takes place during the school's cultural festival, which Raven explains is much bigger than the previous year's, thanks to how many students transferred over from the school down the road that blew up. Raven's class is hosting a bake sale to raise money for something (Raven giggles "I don't know!", and DrillGirl later says "Thank you for supporting local whatevers", suggesting that nobody is sure). Other activities seen include various food stands, a maid café hosted by the Room 424 World Domination Club, different kinds of stage performances, a haunted house, and an auction held by the Collectors Club using a pachinko machine.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: In episode 5, after Kipp attempts to rules lawyer his way out of Berrycream being able to win her stolen bell back, she wordlessly gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, launching him into the sky. The episode ends with her yelling "And don't ever touch my shit again!"
  • Series Continuity Error: Played for Laughs. The Room 424 World Domination Club is explicitly stated to be on the fourth floor of the school, and then in the final shot of episode 4, it's depicted as being on ground level.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: Subverted in episode 2, when Raven and Slash fight. Slash opens with the standard Delayed Causality move, but then it turns out he missed. He just has really bad aim.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Chupachups is named after a Spanish brand of lollipops.
    • Raven's Transformation Sequence is clearly inspired by Sailor Moon, even using "Moon Prism Power, Make Up!" as the music (just with the chorus replaced with "Sparkle on!").
    • The guidance counselor of Raven's school is a copy of Gentlemen Broncos on Blu-ray.
    • In episode 2, two scene transitions are marked with the appropriate visual effects and sounds from Super Mario World and SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • One of Raven's opponents in episode 4 is Paul Phoenix. Not a parody of Paul Phoenix, the actual article.
    • Episode 5 features Red Saber and Lesbian Roronoa Zoro as students at the cultural festival, representing the Afterschool Blades Club.
    • The Collectors Club in episode 5 has a load of references to other media, with one prominent example being a bunch of Jinjos.
  • Slice of Life: The series takes a look into the life of Raven and is generally laidback and low-stakes.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: While the background music for most of the series is fitting, the opening theme is a heavy Hardcore Punk song that clashes with the series' relaxed tone, and the ending themes vary from Hip-Hop to Power Ballad to Ska.
  • Spoof Aesop:
    • When Raven tries to confront a boy who's bullying her in episode 2, the guidance counselor suggests that he may be lashing out for some deeper reason, and Raven should just try talking to him, suggesting a "bullies are people too" aesop. Raven immediately asks if she can just fight him. The guidance counselor sees this as an equally valid option; it works, and the bully even becomes Raven's friend.
    • The ending of Episode 5 starts out as a self-acceptance moral, with Berrycream Frosting saying that she's not embarrassed by her bunny form anymore. She gets interrupted by Kipp whining about how he lost the bell he stole from her, and she proceeds to beat the tar out of him and then tell him to never touch her shit again.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Parodied. DrillGirl immediately declares that she's "the real star of this show!" when she first appears, and this is a Running Gag through the whole series: the show's title implies it's about her life, she's always listed first in the credits, and episode 3 is titled "DrillGirl Saves Santa Claus!" even though this happens entirely off-screen.
  • The Stinger:
    • After the credits of episode 3, there's an additional scene where Albert Tensai, covered in snow, muses about his evil plan while eating a crab.
    • Episode 5 also has a post-credits scene, where it turns out Strawberry lost the talent show she was competing in to the Walking Talking Man.
  • Stylistic Suck: The whole thing is deliberately a bit amateurish, clearly done out of love for the style. The animation is drawn in MS Paint; the only colors used are the default palette, and there is occasionally visible anti-aliasing from use of the fill bucket tool. The voice acting is all over the place, and some actors have really bad microphone quality.
  • Take Over the World: Albert Tensai, the leader of the Room 424 world domination club, wants to take over the world for... some reason, and sees Raven as an obstacle in his way.
  • Team Spirit: Raven consistently denies Berrycream and Dark Shi's offers to help her fend off the students who keep fighting her, likely out of concern for their safety. However, at the end of episode 4, she faces off against Locke, a burly opponent she can't defeat on her own; Berrycream and Dark Shi come in to distract him and they defeat him together. The episode ends as Berrycream and Dark Shi remind Raven that they'll always be there for her, and Raven, on the verge of tears, hugs them.
  • Toast of Tardiness: Raven is seen running to school with a piece of toast in her mouth in the first scene of episode 1. It disappears in the shot immediately following it.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: Both Ryan Sasuke in episode 1 and Kipp in episode 5 are defeated by being launched into the sky.
  • Unexpectedly Dark Episode: "★☆SPARKLE ON DARK SHI☆★", when compared to the main series, is significantly more claustrophobic and noisy, reflecting Dark Shi's turmoil.
  • Wasteful Wishing: When Chupachups offers a single Christmas wish to Raven and Milton Shake, Raven realizes this could be used to save Cooters, and hands it to Milton Shake. He instead wishes for everyone to have a secure password that's different for every website. While this is sensible, Raven and her friends are distraught that this means Cooters won't be saved.
  • Word Salad Lyrics: Episode 5 features Strawberry's song, "Lunchtime Fun", which has lyrics like "Love as a reward / beautiful adore / emotional explore". They do seem to follow a vague theme of friends getting together to have lunch.
