Akira is actually a girl
The lie mentioned during Akira's speech is that Akira is the only guy on the island. In episode 4 it's stated that Akira is a Liberator, but why put a single male in charge of an island full of girls? If the authorities didn't want the prisoners to breed, they'd make sure zero males went in. If they did want them to breed, there'd be a much more balanced ratio of male to female.- Confirmed: Pretending to be the only male Liberator gives her a lot of authority.
Mermaid is actually a boot camp for living weapons
In the flashback in episode 2, we saw how Mirei ripped a mechanized army apart wielding only her Ecsta partner, who took the form of a sword. Every single resident of the island is a potential Person of Mass Destruction and the authorities want to develop these living weapons for their own use. the residents are encouraged to form a society and to fight each other in order to measure the strength and level of obedience of the population. Pairs with a high enough level of combat power and willingness to submit to authority and obey orders will be extracted from the island somehow, perhaps via a schematic in the castle's factory system that can only be accessed by a remote terminal outside the shield.- Seemingly jossed; Everyone with actual training in their abilities got it off the island. The inmates are under observation, but laboratory testing and training takes place elsewhere.
Mermaid is simply a dumping ground.
Alternately, they just don't care and simply dump the girls there. If they're watching at all, they're probably simply taking bets like what Mei Fong did in episode 2.- Momoka confirms this in episode 11. All the girls on Mermaid are viewed as trash/ defective products. Only when something truly exceptional happens does anyone pay attention.
There's going to be some form of a Love Triangle between Mamori, Mirei and Akira
.Since it was shown that Mamori might be more compatible with Akira and Mirei showing a bit of jealousy, it could happen.- Jossed with extreme prejudice by Momoka in episode 11.
Everyone is both a Liberator and an Exstor.
Although most people are better at one than the other.- The official literature of Valkyrie Drive would disagree with you. There are two strains of the Arms virus, the A strain and the V strain. Having both in the same person without artificial and deliberate interference is highly unusual. The three "Soldier" operatives showcased in episode 11 were all artificially enhanced by "The Organization."
Meifong will get herself infected with the virus again.
In the final episode, Mirei and Mamori drain the Arms virus out of almost everybody in Mermaid. However, despite being powerless, Meifong decides to tag along with them when they decide to travel to the other islands to help the people trapped in them. Either she gets herself infected with the virus again, or she's going to become The Heart of the group, which would be rather lame, truth be told.- Or she's really just tagging along to make money, and finance the group.
Lady Lady weren't depowered like everyone else
They were both rather conspicuous by their absence in the scene where Mamori and Mirei pulled the virus out of everyone. And given that the last time they were seen before that they were in their flight capable fusion form its entirely possible that they were out of range once the effect took hold and thus kept their powers.- Confirmed in official materials. They refused he cure, and are helping Mirei and Mamori of their own free will.
