In the final episode, Mirei and Mamori drain the Arms virus out of almost everybody in Mermaid. However, despite being powerless, Meifong decides to tag along with them when they decide to travel to the other islands to help the people trapped in them. Either she gets herself infected with the virus again, or she's going to become TheChick of the group, which would be rather lame, truth be told.

* Confirmed in official materials. They refused he cure, and are helping Mirei and Mamori of their own free will.

They were both rather conspicuous by their absence in the scene where Mamori and Mirei pulled the virus out of everyone. And given that the last time they were seen before that they were in their flight capable fusion form its entirely possible that they were out of range once the effect took hold and thus kept their powers.

Having both in the same person without artificial and deliberate interference is highly unusual. The three "Soldier" operatives showcased in episode 11 were all artificially enhanced by "The Organization."

Alternately, they just don't care and simply dump the girls there. If they're watching at all, they're probably simply taking bets like what Mei Fong did in episode 2.

In the flashback in episode 2, we saw how Mirei ripped a mechanized army apart wielding only her Ecsta partner, who took the form of a sword. Every single resident of the island is a potential PersonOfMassDestruction and the authorities want to develop these living weapons for their own use. the residents are encouraged to form a society and to fight each other in order to measure the strength and level of obedience of the population. Pairs with a high enough level of combat power and willingness to submit to authority and obey orders will be extracted from the island somehow, perhaps via a schematic in the castle's factory system that can only be accessed by a remote terminal outside the shield.
