Curtis and Melody fell in love so quickly because of a past life relationship.

We know from Vulkan that reincarnation is the standard for this series, and at least one other relationship (Liiset's friendship with Idri) is suggested to be influenced by past life connections. This could easily explain why Melody fell in love with Curtis at first meeting.
