Legoshi's "Moth Moment" in his fight with Riz
... Didn't actually turn him into a literal swarm of moths, but allowed him to release the immense scent and fragrance of moths, confusing Riz's senses to such extent that it brought on a straight-up hallucination in the latter's head from having his brain attempt to justify what the odd fragrance really was about.
Riz is dead
  • Riz hasn't made a reappearance since the police incident after his fight with Legoshi. While it's still possible we simply just haven't seen him since, the reveal that Yafya kills carnivores (especially criminals) and uses them as fertilizer for his carrots suggests this might have become Riz's fate.
    • Officially jossed as of Chapter 182. He's just in juvie/juvenile detention.
Yafya is a commentary on sociopolitical conservatism. He’s homophobic and a racial supremacist.
  • After apparently screwing a hooker, about two panels later, he describes a non-interracial, heterosexual relationship as an ideal of peace. He seems to abhor the idea that an interracial couple could ever work (which stems from his past with Gosha), gives preferential treatment to females (and only females) and is often petty and cruel to males. He views most carnivores with absolute contempt (especially when discussing a certain hybrid with higher-ups (to be fair, they really were incompetent, sort of, and the hybrid in question is a psycho murderer). He’s also fond of vigilante justice on his terms, striking down anyone he morally disagrees with. That’s right: Yafya is a caricature of a stereotyped American.
Rokume is one of Cherryton's judges when choosing the next Beastar.
  • There's a reason why they can't decide yet, why they can't choose right away. Maybe because of Legoshi's absurd feats, Rokume has been observing him for quite some time, instead of agreeing to choose Louis as the next Beastar. There's also a reason why her existence is like a secret in Cherryton.
Building off of the above, Yafya is an Armored Closet Gay
  • From the flashbacks we see of his time with Gosha, Yafya didn't always hold most of his current beliefs. His best friend was a carnivore after all, and a member of a shunned species at that. Considering how they both showed disdain at the idea that they were rivals for the role of Beastar, intending to take the mantel together, it's obvious that they were quite close. Yet it seems that Yafya's feelings for Gosha are much stronger than Gosha's feelings for him. He muses that Gosha covered Yafay's weaknesses like his 10 degree blind spot and that he feels incomplete without him b0y his side. While he seemed to show no initial disdain for Gosha's relationship with Legoshi's grandmother, this could easily be attributed to him being content with simply being Gosha's friend and partner as he recognizes that Gosha doesn't share his romantic interest, or perhaps viewing it as simply "sharing" Gosha with Legoshi's grandmother. Then, when Gosha chooses to become a family man, Yafya is heartbroken, not only because his friend is giving up on their dream, but because he's decisively "choosing" Legoshi's grandmother over Yafya, showing that Gosha values her more than he does Yafya. This was probably all completely in his subconscious too, meaning Yafya wasn't aware of his own feelings and thus unlike Juno, couldn't recognize his growing animosity towards carnivores and interspecies relationships as merely a byproduct of his own jealousy. He projects his resentment not only outwards, but inwards, leading to his strong distaste for same-sex relationships. While the few references to homosexuality beforehand in the story weren't reacted to positively by the characters (Legoshi being embarrassed that his first "kiss" was with Tem's killer during his ambush in an attempt to gain some clue as to his identity, or Bill angrily asking if Legoshi is "coming on to him" when he followed him to the bathroom to confront Bill about his rabbit blood vial), none of it was directed towards the idea of homosexuality itself, merely the idea that they would engage in the act personally, and their reactions could easily be attributed to teenagers simply being insecure in their sexuality. Yafya in contrast, shows disdain at even the mere idea of homosexuality and considers same-species heterosexual relationships as the ideal of peace. While his hatred for inter-species relationships is easily attributed to resentment that he lost Gosha to one, that doesn't explain his dislike of homosexuality, unless we consider that he a: doesn't fully realize or is in denial about his true feelings for Gosha, and b: is projecting his own self-loathing onto others. He possibly sees his own failure to win Gosha's heart (even subconsciously) as evidence of the failures of homosexuality. After all, despite his seeming idealization of heterosexual relationships, he himself isn't in one outside of what appear to be simple one-night-stands with horse females. It is entirely possible that he CAN'T feel any romantic attraction to women, and his shame at his own failure to meet society's expectations is causing him to lash out in envy at those he sees as free to have what he can't.
Beastar is a misnomer, as is its current function. The original title was BEASTmAsteR
To put it simply, the history of the Beastar title was blurred when most of the Herbivore-Carnivore war was censored out. The truth is, the title that would eventually be renamed Beastar was given to dictators and tyrants of an even worse brand, seen by the way they have autonomy over some legislative rules to do whatever they want. Now the question is, what kind of species would be arrogant enough to desire command over all animals in the world... and the entire world...
Jack will start experimenting in spanking-related BDSM acts as an alternate way to make himself shed tears because of how poisonous onions are to dogs.
The point of divergence between the BEASTARS universe and ours is the ability to hybridize with other species.
It seems strange for so many different animals to have evolved humanoid traits naturally, but as we learn, any animal can potentially hybridize with any other. Perhaps hominids did evolve just as in our universe, but because of the human habit of Boldly Coming they ended up hybridizing themselves into extinction with any species they came across, and eventually their hybrid descendants would spread humanoid traits to even progressively larger or smaller animals, avoiding the most egregious Hot Skitty-on-Wailord Action. After awhile, the human trait of going after everything was diluted, allowing the usual animal tendency to stick with their own species dominant (with some throwbacks here or there). The only exception to the interbreeding was bugs. Because bugs are gross.

Leano, Legoshi's mom, was as much of a psychopath as Melon is.
As that ghost panther said, hybrids don't feel pleasure from food nor sex, which is obvious in Melon, but also explains quite a bit of Leano's actions. Sleeping with a guy to get pregnant and proceed to forget everything about him? Not sounding all that remorseful even after she killed herself and told her son to 'wait' (which for a canine is a death-bound spell) for her? Sounds a lot more plausible if you consider she never had much capacity for empathy to begin with. By that logic, she never had much actual love for Legoshi himself either, which is a bit of Nightmare Fuel had Legoshi grown up with her instead of his grandfather.
The reason everyone who bites Legoshi talks about how sturdy he is...
..is because his skin is stupidly hardened because of his Komodo Dragon genes, or takes after his mom and has/is going to grow scales sometime soon.
The carnivore-herbivore blood that Louis threw on himself had some degree of Komodo Dragon poison in it, which is why he took so long to recover afterwards.
Issues with hybrids only occur if the two species are too different from each other
The problem with hybrids is their conflicting instincts and biology. If two species that are similar bred, then their offspring would have none, or at least less, issues then hybrids of the variety we see in the series.
Louis' Small Size and Physical Weakness
Even for an herbivore, Louis seems unusually frail and physically weak, especially since red deer are actually one of the larger breeds. He has been shown to struggle to do exercises as simple as push-ups. Physically, when compared to his father, a fellow red deer, he’s much thinner and shorter. In fact, Louis seems closer in body type to his bethronged wife. This can’t all be attributed to his herbivore heritage, as in Chapter 68, a spotted hyena mentions how hard it is to hunt prey because they have such powerful limbs. Then it occurred to me. Louis was born in the Black Market, and spent the first five years of his life there. I am guessing his captors didn’t give him a nutritious diet, much exercise, sunlight, or sanitary conditions. Even if, after that, he received the best medical attention possible, those developmental years are crucial to a healthy body. Louis may never be able to fully recover.
Yafya isn't a pureblooded horse
And he doesn't even know it.

It is repeatedly stated that herbivores are naturally weaker than carnivores, yet Yafya, despite his advancing age, is almost superhumanly powerful. He’s repeatedly shown to competently take on entire groups carnivores, and is capable of intimidating them into submission through his physical might. Horses, by nature, tend to be skittish, anxious, and easily startled, yet Yafya remains cool under pressure and rarely is intimidated by anything. Yafya’s special diet of using the bodies of carnivores he murdered as carnivores shows he has a certain degree of bloodlust, both to kill things and to eat certain things. Herbivores and carnivores are shown to, almost subconsciously, avoid the other group, yet not only was Yafya’s best friend an especially dangerous breed of carnivorous reptile, he showed no problem rescuing victimized carnivores. Almost all aspects of his personality seem to run contrary to the herbivore/carnivore dynamic that has been enforced.

It seems like he might have some carnivore blood diluting his “pure” equine, herbivore genes. However, I don’t think he’s even aware of it. I think, somewhere in his family tree, an herbivore horse woman had an affair (or was raped) by a carnivore male. To save face, the affair was covered up, and the horse family was lucky enough the hybrid offspring didn’t show any signs of hybridization, at least until later into his or her life. It might have been several generations, but I can imagine Yafya is actually one-eighth of an especially violent, vicious carnivore line.

Peacocks view their tails as sort of private.
Most animals in the series have no problem wearing clothes that leave their tails exposed. (Lugoshi thinks about getting pants that hide his tail since its wagging gives away his mood.) Odd that Dom, an example of a species known for a large and elaborate tail never exposes his. Real peacocks spread their tail feathers to attract a mate. It's possible that sentient peafowl find this display as vulgar as waving a bare dick around in public. However, it is possible that a peacock is allowed to display his tail feathers publicly once in his life; during his wedding. It's regarded in this case as a bride wearing a fancy white gown. There may even be some debate about whether or not a peacock should be allowed to display his tail feathers at his second or more wedding.
