- Riz hasn't made a reappearance since the police incident after his fight with Legoshi. While it's still possible we simply just haven't seen him since, the reveal that Yafya kills carnivores (especially criminals) and uses them as fertilizer for his carrots suggests this might have become Riz's fate.
- Officially jossed as of Chapter 182. He's just in juvie/juvenile detention.
- After apparently screwing a hooker, about two panels later, he describes a non-interracial, heterosexual relationship as an ideal of peace. He seems to abhor the idea that an interracial couple could ever work (which stems from his past with Gosha), gives preferential treatment to females (and only females) and is often petty and cruel to males. He views most carnivores with absolute contempt (especially when discussing a certain hybrid with higher-ups (to be fair, they really were incompetent, sort of, and the hybrid in question is a psycho murderer). He’s also fond of vigilante justice on his terms, striking down anyone he morally disagrees with. That’s right: Yafya is a caricature of a stereotyped American.
- There's a reason why they can't decide yet, why they can't choose right away. Maybe because of Legoshi's absurd feats, Rokume has been observing him for quite some time, instead of agreeing to choose Louis as the next Beastar. There's also a reason why her existence is like a secret in Cherryton.
- From the flashbacks we see of his time with Gosha, Yafya didn't always hold most of his current beliefs. His best friend was a carnivore after all, and a member of a shunned species at that. Considering how they both showed disdain at the idea that they were rivals for the role of Beastar, intending to take the mantel together, it's obvious that they were quite close. Yet it seems that Yafya's feelings for Gosha are much stronger than Gosha's feelings for him. He muses that Gosha covered Yafay's weaknesses like his 10 degree blind spot and that he feels incomplete without him b0y his side. While he seemed to show no initial disdain for Gosha's relationship with Legoshi's grandmother, this could easily be attributed to him being content with simply being Gosha's friend and partner as he recognizes that Gosha doesn't share his romantic interest, or perhaps viewing it as simply "sharing" Gosha with Legoshi's grandmother. Then, when Gosha chooses to become a family man, Yafya is heartbroken, not only because his friend is giving up on their dream, but because he's decisively "choosing" Legoshi's grandmother over Yafya, showing that Gosha values her more than he does Yafya. This was probably all completely in his subconscious too, meaning Yafya wasn't aware of his own feelings and thus unlike Juno, couldn't recognize his growing animosity towards carnivores and interspecies relationships as merely a byproduct of his own jealousy. He projects his resentment not only outwards, but inwards, leading to his strong distaste for same-sex relationships. While the few references to homosexuality beforehand in the story weren't reacted to positively by the characters (Legoshi being embarrassed that his first "kiss" was with Tem's killer during his ambush in an attempt to gain some clue as to his identity, or Bill angrily asking if Legoshi is "coming on to him" when he followed him to the bathroom to confront Bill about his rabbit blood vial), none of it was directed towards the idea of homosexuality itself, merely the idea that they would engage in the act personally, and their reactions could easily be attributed to teenagers simply being insecure in their sexuality. Yafya in contrast, shows disdain at even the mere idea of homosexuality and considers same-species heterosexual relationships as the ideal of peace. While his hatred for inter-species relationships is easily attributed to resentment that he lost Gosha to one, that doesn't explain his dislike of homosexuality, unless we consider that he a: doesn't fully realize or is in denial about his true feelings for Gosha, and b: is projecting his own self-loathing onto others. He possibly sees his own failure to win Gosha's heart (even subconsciously) as evidence of the failures of homosexuality. After all, despite his seeming idealization of heterosexual relationships, he himself isn't in one outside of what appear to be simple one-night-stands with horse females. It is entirely possible that he CAN'T feel any romantic attraction to women, and his shame at his own failure to meet society's expectations is causing him to lash out in envy at those he sees as free to have what he can't.
- Seems kinda squicky, though.
It is repeatedly stated that herbivores are naturally weaker than carnivores, yet Yafya, despite his advancing age, is almost superhumanly powerful. He’s repeatedly shown to competently take on entire groups carnivores, and is capable of intimidating them into submission through his physical might. Horses, by nature, tend to be skittish, anxious, and easily startled, yet Yafya remains cool under pressure and rarely is intimidated by anything. Yafya’s special diet of using the bodies of carnivores he murdered as carnivores shows he has a certain degree of bloodlust, both to kill things and to eat certain things. Herbivores and carnivores are shown to, almost subconsciously, avoid the other group, yet not only was Yafya’s best friend an especially dangerous breed of carnivorous reptile, he showed no problem rescuing victimized carnivores. Almost all aspects of his personality seem to run contrary to the herbivore/carnivore dynamic that has been enforced.
It seems like he might have some carnivore blood diluting his “pure” equine, herbivore genes. However, I don’t think he’s even aware of it. I think, somewhere in his family tree, an herbivore horse woman had an affair (or was raped) by a carnivore male. To save face, the affair was covered up, and the horse family was lucky enough the hybrid offspring didn’t show any signs of hybridization, at least until later into his or her life. It might have been several generations, but I can imagine Yafya is actually one-eighth of an especially violent, vicious carnivore line.
