Trivia / Beastars

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Billy Kametz voices both Durham and the Mayor. Until his unexpected death.
    • Kyle Herbert voices Voss, Sanu, and the Chief Lion.
    • Kyle McCarley voices both Collot and Tem.
    • Daman Mills voiced both Kai and Ibuki. The latter role was replaced.
    • Lauren Landa voices both Juno and Ellen.
    • Brian Beacock voices both Dom and Gon.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Somewhat in a meta-example in all versions, both the original Japanese and foreign-language dubs: The whole story is about theater actors, and many of the voice actors are theater actors themselves, as voice acting has always had ties with theater. This is especially more notable in the original Japanese version and in the Latin American Spanish dub, since most of their voice actors are also bona-fide theater actors by their own right.
  • All-Star Cast: The Japanese, English, and Latin-American forms feature a lot new rising-stars and old veteran pros.
  • Follow the Leader: The Zootopia influence on Beastars is palpable. A world of anthropomorphic animals where the strife between predator and prey is a central theme. A friendship/relationship between a headstrong female rabbit and a carnivorous male. However, there was enough meat to Zootopia's central concept that Beastars has plenty of thematic territory to explore, especially given that it takes place in a high school.
    • Paru Itagaki, the creator of Beastars, said she was inspired by Disney and it helped her create the series. Though Zootopia and Beastars might have been released too close to each other for Zootopia to be a direct influence.
    • In the printed release of Beast Complex, Paru admits she had the idea for Beastars before hand, and the timing was a bit of a coincidence.
After Beast Complex was published, an animated movie featuring animal characters was created near the castle located in the country of a certain world power and became a zootopian hit. My series Beastars began right after that. I'd already been drawing the series behind closed doors for a while, but the timing wasn't good.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Sleeper Hit: You wouldn't think an older teen-skewing anthropomorphic animal manga (in itself a relatively niche genre in Japan, through not to the infamous levels the Furry Fandom had in the Anglosphere and some western countries) would be so popular, especially under its label, but it ranked in the top 10 for Shonen manga in the yearly Kono Manga wa Sugoi! rankings, as well as winning an award from Kodansha the same year.
  • Star-Making Role: Legosi and Louis are these to both Jonah Scott and Griffin Puatu.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Ben Diskin revealed on his Twitter that he had auditioned for the role of Legoshi in the English dub, but didn't make the cut. He did however, get the role of Jack.
    • Alejandro Orozco had auditioned for the role of Legoshi in the Latin Spanish dub, but in the end he got the role of Riz.
    • Paru Itagaki will occasionally post images from the Beastars manuscript as she works, including ones that don't make it to print. This page of Melon looking down at the city while hanging over a balcony was never printed.
  • Word of Gay: According to Paru, Dom is homosexual (specifically, an onee is an effeminate homosexual). Although the anime made this a little more obvious by having him speak very effeminately.
