Games that will have Amiibo support

Since there are games that will obviously have the support of these little figurines, here will be where people can make their guesses for what games they're compatible with and what they'll do.
  • Pokkén Tournament
    • The amiibo would function like card readers in Japanese arcades: They store information in the player's figure of the fighter.
    • Confirmed. There will be a Shadow Mewtwo card that unlocks the bonus fight right away.
  • Splatoon
    • Confirmed. The game is getting 3 amiibo that unlock missions and other stuff.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
    • Confirmed. Using the Wolf Link/Midna amiibo in the game allows you to have Wolf Link as an AI-controlled partner.
  • Pikmin 4
  • Mario Tennis Aces
  • Pokémon Sword & Shield

Wave 5

  • With the pattern of the odd numbered waves having a lot of Smash characters and the even numbered waves having only 6, there is speculation that Wave 5 will include everyone else who's unlockable upon starting Smash 4 Wii U.:
    • Jigglypuff: Leaked alongside the Splatoon amiibo. Although the leak isn't valid yet, Jigglypuff is unlocked upon start in the Wii U version. Speculated to be Semi-Common to Rare.
      • Sort of, confirmed as an addition to Wave 4, and from the looks of Target.com pre-orders, Jigglypuff may be a Unicorn. Store exclusive as well.
    • Greninja: Leaked alongside the Slatoon amiibo and Jigglypuff. Greninja is unlocked upon start. Speculated to be Semi-Rare, and demand could be high as Greninja has a high amount of popularity.
      • Sort of, confirmed as an addition to Wave 4, and is a Toys R Us exclusive. This could mean that it might be a Unicorn amiibo later on.
    • Ganondorf: Is unlocked upon start in the Wii U version, and could possibly be in high demand as he's a relatively popular character in Smash 4. However, seeing how well other Zelda amiibo have been faring, it is possible he could be a "Diddy Kong" amiibo like those two.
      • Confirmed
    • Bowser Jr: Is unlocked upon start in the Wii U version, and a Mario character has appeared in each wave. Might end up Common actually, as many Mario characters except for Rosalina have been easy to find in stores with no problem. If Bowser Jr becomes a store exclusive, that could bump him up to Unicorn very quickly though.
      • It might be possible that the Koopalings might get separate amiibo in a later wave, whether if they use their Smash Brothers design or Super Mario Bros design. Only time will tell.
      • Bowser Jr confirmed. Koopalings have yet to be disputed. He is also a Toys R Us exclusive, and since he doesn't have any online stock at the moment, he is either Uncommon or Unicorn, depending on the the location.
    • Palutena is unlocked upon start and it is possible that she would be released in the next wave. However, her demand would be extremely high (similar to Rosalina and Lucina) as she is even considered a "waifu" in some discussions. Pit is considered a Unicorn amiibo right now, so it is possible that Palutena might face the same fate as well. There are also no figures of Palutena anywhere else, increasing the demand even more.
      • Confirmed as the first figure alongside Dark Pit to be sold in Wave 5. Additionally, it is confirmed that she's the (currently) only Amazon.com amiibo exclusive.
    • Zero Suit Samus is a relatively popular and attractive character, so it is speculated that her amiibo will be in high demand. It is possible she could be a Rare or Unicorn amiibo, but seeing how regular Samus (pre-Wave 4) ended up, it could be a best case scenario that she's an Uncommon.
      • Confirmed. Also, she is slightly easier to find than Samus right now.
    • Captain Olimar might be considered Rare, as his series isn't too popular compared to the likes of Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda. Similar to Bowser Jr, it might be possible that Alph himself gets an amiibo too.
      • Confirmed

The Fire Emblem amiibo will be easier to obtain after Marth is re-released, so that folks will have a fair chance of getting one for use with Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
I mean, it'd be pretty silly to promote a feature like that and then only produce frustratingly limited amounts, right?..
  • Hopefully. Meta Knight and King Dedede are also used in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, but those amiibo are very hard to find. Fortunately, Kirby's amiibo (a more common one) is more useful than the Dedede and Meta Knight amiibo in that game anyways.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 will use the Amiibo Cards
The cards will be similar to the e-reader packs that had extra levels, items, and those who change the game mechanics somewhat, with Nintendo altering the game to make them work without using the e-reader application from a second GBA. It's possible that the cards from Japan and the unreleased cards might come internationally as well. It might explain why it's the only one of the Advance games that has not came out on the Virtual Console. That is unless Nintendo disables world-e just like the European version.
  • Jossed: The Virtual Console release of the game haves the entire World-e unlocked by default.

Nintendo actually has learned their lesson regarding the extreme shortage.
I'll use Ness and Gamestop as my demonstrating example. According to the other Wiki, Gamestop has 6,627 locations worldwide. For the Wave 4 launch, figures were sold out by the time no more than 3 sales were made at any given store. If, say ~4,000 Gamestop locations are in the United States, and based on Ness being exclusive to Gamestop in America, and assuming 2 or 3 of those sales per store (an intentional likely overestimate) included Ness, that would amount to no more than 12,000 Ness figures in America. 12,000 is a ridiculously low quantity of anything not intended as a limited collector's edition, and Nintendo should have the business sense to know that it would be far more profitable to produce more of those figures. Therefore, since they haven't been available for pre-order, they must be intended for at-launch availability. note

Franchises or games that will have amiibo series.

  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Pokkén Tournament
    • While having amiibos of all 721 Pokemon is implausible (it seems more likely that they would wind up as cards), sticking with the roster of the inevitable Wii U release of Pokken Tournament could be a good way of narrowing down which Pokemon they would use. Plus, there's some overlap between that game and the Smash Bros. roster, with Lucario, Pikachu, and Charizard being in both games at the very least.
    • Confirmed. There will be an amiibo card of Shadow Mewtwo that unlocks his bonus fight immediately.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Sonic has a lot of fan favourite characters which would work well as figurines, and there seems to be a large overlap between the fans of Nintendo systems and Sonic in spite of their previous rivalry. Nintendo might be less willing to do this rather than make a set of characters from one of their own series, since Sega would get some of the profits, but the inclusion of Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man in the Smash Bros. series of amiibos shows that they are willing to do this sort of thing.
  • Mega Man
    • Capcom hasn't done a whole lot with one of their star franchises lately, barring another Compilation Re-release. Yet, said collection is amiibo compatible. With the announcement of a new Mega Man cartoon and an official movie on the way, it's pretty clear that Capcom still has a strong interest in merchandising Mega Man. Given this, as well as their minimal-effort attempts to appease fans, it would make sense for Capcom to continue both trends with a line of Mega Man amiibo.
      • Sort of confirmed, with the Gold Mega Man amiibo, albeit it's just a repaint of the standard Mega Man amiibo.
  • Indie Series
    • A number of indie companies, such as WayForward Technologies and Inti Creates, have been pushing for their characters to appear in Super Smash Bros, encouraging fans to put in votes for their stars. Should these attempts fail, it would make sense for them to make a move towards the next best thing: amiibo. Given the creation of the Shovel Knight amiibo, and official statements that more indie amiibo are possible and many companies have approached Nintendo about amiibo rights, it seems likely that we'll at least see a few indie amiibo in the future. This could include:

  • Yo-Kai Watch and/or Professor Layton
    • Easily one of the biggest 3rd party games in Japan, Nintendo and Level 5 seem to get along rather well, and the potential boost in profit a co-amiibo project could help keep them on Nintendo systems.

  • Kid Icarus
    • Should there ever be a sequel to Uprising, the game would be compatible with the Pit, Dark Pit, and Palutena amiibo.

  • Star Fox
    • With the release of Star Fox Zero coming next year, it would be the perfect opportunity to release amiibo of the entire Star fox team. Bonus Points if there are plans for Star Wolf amiibo.

  • Ace Attorney
    • Given it's long history on Nintendo platforms and Capcom's relations with Nintendo, a possible line could be viable. If so, Phoenix will likely either be the only one, or the most common of them. It will promptly lead to internet memes mocking him for his commonness compared to the Unicorn Edgeworth.

More amiibo-Skylanders are on the way
  • To give themselves an edge in the Skylanders market, from now on each Skylanders game will have at least one amiibo-Skylander per game, though it will continue to be limited to "creature" characters, like Yoshi, Kirby, and King Dedede.
    • Maybe Yoshi, but Kirby and King De De De ran into trouble because HAL has some ownership of them (Kirby was intended you see). If they can get HAL on board though.....
  • Given Zelda's 30th anniversary, and the addition of the new Wolf Link Amiibo, perhaps Nintendo will celebrate this milestone year with a new Wolf Link Skylander? Best guess would be of the Dark element, given his connection to Midna and the Twilight Realm.

A Smash Bros. series of cards will be released
They will contain the downloadable Mii costumes and stages. You will be able to scan the costumes at the Mii editing screen to equip the pieces and the stages at the main menu to add them for the play session.

Additionally, the figures for the DLC characters will contain the playable character itself
Either through an included Download code, a card (As with my WMG above), or simply scanning the figure will enable the character to be used for the play session.
  • Jossed: The game doesn't recognize the amiibo if you haven't bought the DLC.

The resulting Cloud Smash Amiibo will be compatible with future Nintendo Square-Enix games
.

Amiibo shortages are artificially induced in order to keep demand high.

Yeah, sometimes Nintendo genuinely slips and doesn't keep up production, but you'd think after seeing the Furby/Tickle Me Elmo/Buzz Lightyear/etc/etc/etc mass shortages around Christmas that Nintendo didn't at least think about proper supply chain logistics, but then decided that they'd rather underproduce Amiibos so people will wait in line for hours and pay through the nose for them rather than make a glut that nobody will want (until 50 years later, where rare unopened unsold Amiibos become a collector's item).

The next wave of Fire Emblem amiibo will not only include Chrom and Tiki.
It will include other characters as well. My guesses are Ryoma and Xander, as well as new versions of Marth and Corrin, due to being main characters like Chrom. It could also include Lucina since she's a Breakout Character like Tiki.

Super Smash Bros. for Switch will only have a few amiibo
The Super Smash Bros. series of amiibo was large, and seems a bit too ambitious to do all over again. If they release more Smash amiibo, it will only be for newcomers and maybe a handful of veterans.

The Min Min amiibo will have switchable ARMS
The right arm will by default have a Ramram attatched, but can be swapped out for a Megawatt or another Dragon.
