Angry Birds: Scratch Edition is a physics game created by JackAwePlushPro made on Scratch based on the popular video game series Angry Birds released on September 14, 2023. The game is being consistently updated to this day, and it has a huge amount of characters even for Angry Birds standards. The game’s code is borrowed from a Scratch remake of the flash game Crush The Castle, with plenty of new features being added, such as tracking how many castles you destroyed, how many birds you have fired and how many you have left, and of course, the several (and we mean several) new characters.

The game can be played here.

Press space to access tropes:

  • Abnormal Ammo: Exaggerated, which says a lot given that this is an Angry Birds game. Not only can you fire birds just like the original games, you can also fire certain pigs that are usually supposed to be enemies (one of which is a pig that literally dies upon collision), multiple PNGs of real-life musicians, an orange, fat, lasagna loving cat, a bag of Cheetos, the slingshot that is usually used to fire the birds in the games, the three eggs that are saved in every game, Godzilla, a watermelon, and even the number 2.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Zeta, Leonard, Ross, Mechanic Pig, and a single minion pig are all playable characters that help fight the pigs.
  • Alternate Self: Thanks to the nature of the game, a good chunk of characters are variations of different characters:
    • Red has his Space variant, Mighty Feathers variant, a surprised variant, a front facing variant, the original concept version of Red, Female Red, Slash, and Luke Skywalker (Darth Vader also counts, since Anakin Skywalker was also played by Red).
    • The Blues have their Space variant and the Blue Squadron.
    • Chuck has his Space variant, a concept version of him, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Freddie Mercury.
    • Bomb has his Space variant, his Shockwave variant, Obi-Wan Kenobi (both incarnations from the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy), and Santa Bomb.
    • Matilda has her Distaff Counterpart similar to Red’s, her C3PO variant from Angry Birds Star Wars, and her Space variant from Reloaded.
    • Bubbles has his Space variant and a concept version of him.
    • Terence has his Space variant, his cousin Tony from Angry Birds Seasons, his Wingman variant, which also has his own Space variant, Chewbacca, and The Hunter. Both Wingman variants also have Power Potion/Super Sling variants that can be unlocked if you switch the slingshot to the Super Sling while they are active.
    • Stella has Princess Leia and her Space variant introduced in Reloaded.
    • Hal has his Space variant in Reloaded.
    • Mighty Eagle has Mighty Dragon, Space Eagle, Mighty Buzzard, Toucan Sam, and Philadelphia Eagle.
    • Sonic The Hedgehog has his Super Sonic variant.
    • Yoda is playable in two forms, his form from the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • A recent update added minion pigs that are randomly placed in the level. To compensate for the higher difficulty, the maximum amount of birds was changed from 6 to 8.
    • Multiple songs were added, including copyrighted songs from the movie. A Streamer-Friendly Mode was also added in case you want to make videos on the game without getting copyrighted.
    • In case your birds get stuck somewhere, you can click on them to return them to the slingshot if pressing space doesn't work.
  • All There in the Manual: If you look inside the code, you will find out that the creepy King Pig Easter Egg is named Prince Pork.
  • Beyond the Impossible: The eggs' ability involves them hatching into any character. Which includes all the pigs, humans, inanimate objects, and other characters who aren't even birds.
  • The Big Guy: Terence and his variants, obviously.
    • Godzilla is an even bigger (pun intended) example of this trope. Not only is he larger than most of the other playable characters, but whenever he’s fully in view, he takes up a huge chunk of the entire screen.
  • Boring, but Practical: One of Mario's powerups is a 1-Up Mushroom, and unlike the other abilities, doesn’t affect Mario himself and just adds an extra remaining bird. It may seem lame at first, but given that this is a luck based Angry Birds game, it can actually be pretty useful, especially if you only have one or two shots left.
  • Boss Game: The entire game is just an endless mode Angry Birds game with several Mook pigs and a boss on top of the tower. Each boss has their own specific behavior.
    • King Pig, Foreman Pig, and Chef Pig are simply larger Mooks.
    • Nigel constantly flies back and forth, and unlike the other bosses, does not fall whenever the castle is damaged.
    • Gale constantly flies up and down.
    • Alien Pig sends spacecraft pigs to fly directly to your bird after you launch them. They can also kill any Mook pigs.
    • Fat Pig needs to be hit twice in order to be popped.
    • Hektor Porko has a vortex in front of the tower that sends your bird (as well as any Mook pigs it hits) to a vortex behind the tower.
    • Emperor Palpatine shoots three lightning bolts at your bird once they are fired. They can also kill any Mook pigs.
    • Dr. Eggman has a pig controlling his wrecking ball, which can knock your birds out of the sky, as well as kill any Mook pigs it hits.
    • The Pork Federation carrier is a combination of Alien Pig and Nigel’s abilities.
    • The macabre King Pig Easter Egg, Prince Pork, appears as a secret boss if you get a Game Over after destroying at least 150 castles and is fought in three phases. The first phase involves him using Hektor Porko’s vortexes and Palpatine and Alien Pig’s projectiles (Minion Pigs in this case). The second phase involves you getting double crossed by Front Facing Red and him getting smaller before randomly moving around and sending pigs to attack you, and his final phase involves him turning gigantic and hanging from the ceiling, swinging his arms around and sending pigs towards you.
  • The Bus Came Back: A minion pig used to be a playable character, but he was replaced by Leonard. He was later re-added in a recent update.
  • Death from Above: Matilda, Tony, Harvey, Mighty Eagle, Zeta, the King, 2, Female Matilda, Striped Bird, and Old Yoda all provide examples of this trope.
  • Denser and Wackier: The "Weirdos" update is easily the strangest update in the entire game, with the most random character additions including Concept Chuck, the bird version of Slash from Angry Birds Space, and even the eggs that need to be saved in every game.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: After fully destroying the tower, a message pops up that says: "Click reset to reset."
  • Easter Egg:
    • A macabre version of King Pig occasionally appears on the screen for a few split seconds. Only god knows why.
      • He also appears as part of Front Facing Red’s ability.
    • Clicking on one of the minion pigs will make him jump in the air and do a flip before landing.
    • If you use Wingman and change the Slingshot skin to the Super Sling, he will use a power potion on himself, which will make him even more powerful, as he doesn't even bounce when he hits the tower.
  • Guest Fighter: So many of them that there has to be a separate article showing all of them.
  • Guide Dang It!: A few characters’ descriptions don’t even say what they do:
    • The hatchling is simply a weak bird. His description consists of:
"You just launched a baby from a slingshot, what is wrong with you?"
    • Front Facing Red’s ability is to make the macabre King Pig Easter Egg appear and do random damage to the tower. His description says:
    "HE WATCHES. ALWAYS."
    • Surprised Red does a battle cry and explodes when he hits the tower. His description says:
"Wait, he actually has an ability this time?"
  • How Is That Even Possible?: Garry’s description:
"Drinks coffee and then flies to the cast- wait, what? How? This seems physically impossible. This is bad game design."
  • Logical Extreme: Plenty of characters appear that are extremely obscure. If a character has even a slight connection to the series, it can get in.
    • Hologram Darth Maul only appears because he appeared in an in-game teaser in Angry Birds Space.
    • Sonic’s inclusion is due to Sega buying Rovio Entertainment, as well as him appearing as a Guest Fighter in Angry Birds Epic.
    • Eminem appeared in the game due to both his songs and Angry Birds topping iTunes charts around the same time. No, seriously.
    • Billy the Anger Management sign was simply a sign that Red attacked in The Angry Birds Movie. In this game, he’s not only a playable character, but can now summon a head that shoots a laser.
    • Rick Astley is added, likely due to a Rickroll appearing in the movie.
      • From the same update, a concept version of Red, a watermelon and 2 were added. No, not a bird or pig named 2, the actual number 2 in digit form.
    • Martin Prince from The Simpsons appears due to the show featuring a scene where Nelson plays "Angry Nerds" (throwing Martin at other kids by his underwear).
    • Multiple inanimate objects got added into the game as well. While the inclusion of the rock from Crush The Castle is at least understandable due to being from the game that inspired Angry Birds as a whole, a few others can get a bit strange (which is saying something given the nature of this game).
      • A watermelon was added in due to frequently showing up on several structures in the games.
      • The number 2 from the Angry Birds 2 logo also appears.
      • A TopGolf branded golf ball also appears as a character thanks to the driving range having a game mode based on Angry Birds.
  • Luck-Based Mission:
    • Not only are the birds themselves randomized, but the amount of birds you get is also randomized from 3 to 8. It can also be much harder if you get a boss with special abilities such as Nigel, Palpatine, or any of the Space bosses.
    • Wingman’s ability involves him teleporting to a random location. If he hits the tower, he does a substantial amount of damage, but if he doesn’t, he does nothing.
    • Similarly, The King. He flies to a random position and falls, but if he hits the castle he explodes.
  • Marathon Level: Destroying 150 castles to get to the secret boss. It doesn't seem so bad...until you remember how each boss behaves differently and therefore requires a different strategy, some of which can take longer than others. It can take at least an hour. (And, no, we're not exaggerating.)
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Unlike the other characters, the TopGolf branded golf ball cannot harm the tower on its own (though it can still hurt the pigs). Instead, you must land the ball on one of the six targets that appear on the floor. The farther away the target is from the slingshot, the more effective the damage will be.
  • Medium Awareness: The game seems to be quite aware that it is a game, if some of the character descriptions and Prince Pork's monologue before the secret boss fight are any indication.
  • Mind Screw: Good luck trying to figure out what is even happening most of the time.
  • Moveset Clone: Sonic, Mighty Feathers Red, Lazer Bird, and Blu and Jewel all function identically, going directly to your cursor. Justified, since Sonic’s ability is a reference to his attacks in Super Smash Bros., and the other three already function identically in the original games to begin with.
    • Subverted by Dahlia, she functions the same gameplay wise, but is visually different, teleporting.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: The bosses' attacks (Hektor's vortexes, Alien Pig's spaceships, Palpatine's lightning, and Dr. Eggman's wrecking ball), while they are harmful to your birds, are just as effective on the Mook pigs.
  • No Ending: The game has no specific story, and mostly just functions as an Endless Mode Angry Birds game. However, if you get a game over after destroying at least 150 castles, the macabre King Pig that appears as an Easter Egg will ask you if you want to keep playing. No matter what you answer, he will tell you that he is in control and not you, and then will challenge you to a three-phase boss fight.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: While every other character has a 2d or 8-bit model, Eminem and Rick Astley are quite literally PNGs of them.
  • Offing the Offspring: Leonard is a playable character, and the King Pig (Smooth Cheeks) is one of the bosses in this game. Leonard is confirmed to be Smooth Cheeks’s father.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Piggy McCool and The King from Crush The Castle both provide examples of this trope.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The pig on top of the tower used to this after being knocked off the tower. Nowadays, he just pops like the original game.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The music is the cheery and upbeat music from the Angry Birds games and movies...set to a game full of destruction, explosions, screaming, and plenty of meme-worthy moments.
    • Completely Inverted with the secret boss fight against Prince Pork, however, since the high-adrenaline boss music fits perfectly with the fight.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: JackAwePlushProj (the creator) seems to have a strange obsession with making things explode.
    • Bomb and all his variants have some kind of explosion on impact, just like the original games.
    • Matilda still drops an explosive egg.
    • Ross flies in his plane, and if he hits the tower, his plane explodes and sends him flying on his own.
    • The King from Crush The Castle flies to a random location before falling, and then he explodes if he hits the castle.
    • Surprised Red does his battle cry, then randomly explodes if he hits the tower.
    • 2 makes a bunch of clones of himself rain down, and they explode once they hit the ground.
    • Eminem’s spaghetti projectiles randomly explode after flying somewhere.
    • The boombox from Friends returns, and just like the original game, involves a TNT box on a parachute.
    • Piggy McCool tries to imitate The Blues, but it somehow ends up in him spinning and exploding.
    • Martin Prince explodes after hitting the tower, then he launches Nelson, which causes reality to crumble due to Nelson not being a playable character.
    • Old Yoda dies in mid-air, and if he hits the tower, he explodes.
    • The Millennium Falcon explodes before having lasers fired where it exploded.
  • Stylistic Suck: Concept Red’s ability turns the tower into a horrible MS Paint drawing, which causes the pigs to die.
  • Take That!: The aforementioned MS Paint drawing version of the tower has a pig with a speech bubble that says, "Nickelback sux"!
  • Token Evil Teammate: Front Facing Red. He seems just like the other birds and allies, but his ability involves him summoning Prince Pork. This is worrying enough, but during the secret boss fight against Prince Pork, he betrays the other birds and teams up with Prince Pork to kill the player.
  • Token Heroic Orc: The most recent update added minion pigs as secondary enemies to the boss. It also added a minion pig as a playable character, and he dies upon collision.
