Least Favorite Tropes
- Abusive Parent: Specifically when it's Played for Laughs. I don't really have any issues for it being used for drama, but I don't find it at all funny.
- Bumbling Dad (It can be done well, but I find it more often than not either isn't or eventually devolves do to flanderization.)
- Born Lucky and Born Unlucky: I have never really been comfortable with whole idea of "luck" being an actual force in the universe, that arbitrarily bestows good fortune on to some, while crapping on others due to no fault of their own.
- Butt-Monkey and related tropes. I don't really have a problem with the story putting any character through the ringer in itself, or any character occasionally getting hit by a little slapstick here and there. But when the show/story just dumps on one character disproportionately, my sense of pity will kick in and I won't be able to take any real joy in the character's misfortune (And that's if I don't care for them otherwise). Granted, this can make any moments where a character that gets dumped on a lot, get's thrown a bone all the sweeter. And I can usually look past this if the story still offers enough to like.
- Double Standard tropes in general.
- Failure Is the Only Option
- Gross Out Humor
- Invincible Hero
- Jerkass: With few exceptions.
- Karma Houdinni: I've never really saw the appeal of this. I mean, I can understand if the writer is trying to make some kind of point. And it can help show how much a danger a villain is, if they don't always get defeated in every episode. But just letting them get away with their misdeed, just because? I can't see what others like about that.
- Protagonist-Centered Morality
- The Thing That Would Not Leave: With some exceptions.
