Socially awkward magic student Twilight Sparkle discovers that the infamous Nightmare Moon is due to return from her thousand year imprisonment, which leads her to one completely sane and not at all stupid idea; she should make Nightmare Moon her friend. And so forth she begins her adventures.

Major League Pony is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Abridged Series, created by Brony Burning Axe. note

Provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Name Change: Celestia and Luna are credited as "Sun Butt" and "Moon Butt" respectively. They change their names to Celestia and Luna at the end of episode 2.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Twilight denies being gay, but has dirty thoughts about Rarity when she's alone which she denies to herself, implying she might be in denile of her sexuality.
  • Art Shift: The show briefly switches to original animation, during Nightmare Moon's flashback.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Among the many vital things Princess Sun Butt brings her ponies, she also brings the ketchup.
  • Ax-Crazy:
    • In episode 2, Fluttershy brutally kills a manticore off-screen and is later seen wielding a chainsaw. Later in one of the shorts, she mentions Spike and herself going to stab someone.
    • Rarity kills Steven Magnet in the same episode for no reason at all.
  • Bait-and-Switch: During their confrontation in episode two, Nightmare Moon seems to take up Twilight on her offer to be friends and reveals that deep down she was just lonely... before throwing it back in her face and mocking her for thinking that would actually work.
  • Berserk Button: Celestia hates being called "Sun Butt". Calling her that will make that pony drenched in ketchup.
  • Brown Note: Pinkie Pie's laughter literally causes things to explode.
  • Call-Forward: At the end of episode two, Twilight vows to herself, that she will get back at "Sunbutt" and become a princess herself, then make Sunbutt vow down to her. As most fans of the original show know, that's the season three finale.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Nightmare Moon openly states she's evil.
  • Chainsaw Good: Fluttershy is seen holding one near the end.
  • Character Exaggeration: Applejack is like her canon counter part, only with all her western/southern country characteristics exaggerated.
    • And to a lesser extent, Rainbow Dash.
  • Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Gangster!: Fluttershy and Spike seem to think so.
    • More specifically, Fluttershy thinks Spike's a gangster and asks excitedly if he could teach her, which he does enthusiastically, but never outright states if he's a real gangster or not.
  • Evil Is Petty/ Troll: Nightmare Moon tricks Twilight into thinking she is accepting her offer of friendship, just so she could throw it back in her face and later tricks Twilight into sticking herself with the title of Element of Lesbian, even as the Mane Six are about to defeat her.
  • Evil Laugh: Twilight lets out one in her head at the end of episode two, after she reveals her plans to get back at Celestia.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Rarity reveals her last name is bitch of all things, after Twilight calls her one. Surprisingly, she doesn't seem bothered by this at all.
  • Fan Fiction: Spike apparently wrote one, but is interrupted before he could elaborate anymore.
  • Fun with Acronyms: In this series, the Elements of Harmony are: Annoying, Greed, Uhhhh, Emotion, East, and Lesbian. Rearrange those and you get:
Twilight: To sum this all up, L.E.A.G.U.E. We are the Major LEAGUE Ponies! (Working title.)
  • Genre Savvy: Invoked by Applejack, when she convinces Twilight to let go of the ledge by reminding her that she's the protagonist in a cartoon and there for, would have to survive. She doesn't actually believe Twilight will survive, but luckily for Twi, she does anyway.
  • Jerkass: Twilight is constantly rude to those around her and only has a "Friendless Background" because she refuses to let anypony be her friend, while constantly complaining about not having friends. How much of this is lack of social skills or her just being stuck up, is unclear.
    • Rarity makes it clear that she doesn't have bitch in her name for nothing.
  • Kick the Dog: Twilight telling Spike she doesn't have any real friends, after he says he's her friend.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Twilight. Not because other don't offer, she just doesn't think they're good enough and avoids them instead.
  • Love at First Sight: Spike towards Rarity of course. Though, his desires are not as innocent as they are in the original series.
Spike: I'm going to lose my virginity to her.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac Rainbow Dash constantly brings up her sexual exploits, (at one point even having to be shut up by AJ) her signature move is the "Rainblow Job", and when the Shadow Bolts try to seduce her, she turns them down, because they only had two guys and she apparently needs at least three.
  • Mare Child: Rainbow Dash makes several immature sex jokes.
  • Meaningful Name: Rarity makes it known that her last name isn't bitch for nothing, after pretending to be nice to Steven Maganus, only to kill him.
  • Ms Fan Service: Rarity is this in-universe. Especially for Spike.
  • Nice Guy: Spike.
  • No Social Skills: Both Twilight and Fluttershy.
  • Oh, Crap!: Twilight's response at the end of the first episode.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The fight between the Mane Six and the manticore, takes the form of a Pokémon style battle.
    • During Nightmare Moon's flashback to her days on the moon, you can see the Space Sphere from Portal 2 flying by her.
    • From the same flashback, Nightmare Moon claims her only friend was a small meteorite named waffles, who's face was just a bloody hand print, much like Wilson the volleyball from Cast Away
  • Straight Man: Spike is this to Twilight.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Nightmare Moon states this to herself, as Twilight is running down a completely ridicules and nonsensical list of element names for her friends.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: While thinking to herself, Twilight insist she's a straight mare, who is not interested in Rarity's..
  • Title Drop: Twilight does this in the climax of episode two. See Fun with Acronyms above.
  • Too Dumb to Live: For whatever reason, Twilight thinks Nightmare Moon, will make a perfectly good friend for her, despite being evil. This is Lamp Shaded repeatedly. In episode 2, she keeps calling Princess Celestia "Sun Butt", even after she makes it clear she doesn't like to be called that. Celestia eventually punishes her by drenching her in ketchup, which she is allergic to.
  • Verbal Tic
    • Applejack uses different "countrisms".
    • Pinkie occasionally makes an odd shrieking-like-sound.
  • Vocal Dissonance: As with most MLP Abridged Series, most of the cast have this.
    • Special note goes to Pinkie Pie, who despite retaining her cheery and hyperactive personality, speaks in a deadpanned voice.
    • Spike speaks in a deep African American voice.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Apparently all the princesses have power over one condiment: ketchup for Celestia, mustard for Luna.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Twilight has a very... interesting voice.
    • Princess Sun Butt/Celestia's weird accent, puts Twilight's to shame.
  • Wingding Eyes: When Twilight realizes that the rest of the mane six are already her friends, she briefly gets dollar signs in her eyes.
  • You're Insane!: Princess Sun Butt's (Celestia) response to Twilight's request to make Nightmare Moon her friend, over any other pony, is to politely ask this "Have you lost your mind?!"
