Trivia / Very Bad Things

Go To

  • Billing Displacement: Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz get top billing, such as in the above poster, due to them having bigger 'Hollywood' names than the likes of Jon Favreau or many of the others. However neither of them are the main protagonists, and Diaz actually has what can only be called a supporting role at best.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $10 million. Box Office: $9,898,412.
  • Creator's Oddball: Peter Berg, an actor turned director who is now best known for action films such as Hancock and Battleship, made his directorial debut with this Black Comedy.
  • Dueling Works: The film has an almost identical premise to Stag, which was released several months earlier. Both involve a rowdy bachelor party in which the revelers accidentally kill a prostitute and her security guard and then devolve into infighting as some of them try to cover up the crime. Very Bad Things played the scenario for black comedy, received a theatrical release and is much better known.
  • Real-Life Relative: The rabbi at the funeral is Jeremy Piven's real life father, Byrne Piven.
  • Star-Derailing Role: After a promising career beginning with Heathers and including hits like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and True Romance, the failure of this film marked the end of Christian Slater's career as a leading man.
  • What Could Have Been: Adam Sandler was originally cast as Michael Berkow but dropped out at the last minute to make The Waterboy.
