Trivia / Ultraman Zearth

Go To

  • Distanced from Current Events: The first movie's action scenes do not take place in the city for fears that destroyed and burning buildings might bring to mind the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995, which happened a year before the movie's premiere. The sequel, which premiered in 1997, does not have these concerns and thus shows scenes of Ultraman Shadow destroying a city.
  • Milestone Celebration: Released as part of Tsuburaya Productions' 30th anniversary.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: There's a game on the original PlayStation that serves as a follow-up to the movies (yes, really!) in which the original Alien Benzene makes a comeback with more monsters in another attempt to conquer Earth. For some reason though the game plays out more like an RPG instead of a fighting game like most Ultramen-related medium at the time.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Zearth and Alien Benzene were meant to have their suit actors' faces partially exposed, as a Shout-Out to Kamen Norider, whose main protagonist was also played by Noritake Kinashi (Butsukichi Konakai). Traces of this idea can be seen in Zearth's face design, which appears as if wearing a mask with the mouth uncovered.
    • There were plans to make a third movie, but they were placed on the back burner and subsequently forgotten about while making Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light. One planned plot point for this movie was the revelation that Zearth was the grandson of Ultraman King.
    • Ultraman Shadow was originally meant to be black and silver, but that color scheme was deemed too cool-looking for an Evil Knockoff of Zearth and was changed to the current black and gold.
  • You Look Familiar:
    • Hiroko Sakurai, who plays Akiko Fuji in the original Ultraman, shows up as a random auntie who keeps noticing the MYDO jets taking off from their secret base, but have a hard time trying to explain to neighbors and passer-bys about what she saw.
    • Kohji Moritsugu who portrays Captain Ban Satsuma previously plays Dan Moroboshi a.k.a Ultraseven.
    • Susumu Kurobe who was previously Shin Hayata from Ultraman have a cameo appearance as a civilian.
    • Jiro Dan a.k.a Goh Hideki / Ultraman Jack from Return of Ultraman shows up as a newscaster, and in fact narrates the opening about Ultraman Zearth's defeat to the public. He later reports on the Doomsday Clock on how much time humanity still have near the ending.
