  • Actor-Shared Background: John Goodman was raised Southern Baptist which is the Gemstones' denomination. He told Seth Meyers in a Late Night interview that he went to tent revivals with his grandmother when he was a kid.
  • All-Star Cast: Features some of the greatest comedic actors, that even non-movie-goers will recognise the faces.
  • Cast Incest: BJ's sister KJ is played by his actor Tim Baltz's wife Lily Sullivan.
  • The Cast Showoff: Walton Goggins used to successfully participate in clogging competitions alongside his mother, and displays his skills when performing as one half of the Freeman siblings.
  • Cast the Expert: Late gospel singer Aimee-Leigh is played by Country music star Jennifer Nettles.
  • Copiously Credited Creator: Danny McBride is the creator, showrunner, and a main cast member of the show. He also has a writing credit on each of the episodes and directed the pilot.

    • McBride created the show, writes or co-writes each episode, and also performs as the lead role.

    • Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, executive-producers and directors on the show, are both frequent collaborators with Danny McBride and have worked on numerous projects with him.
    • This is Walton Goggin's second series with McBride after Vice Principals. At that show's end, McBride stated publicly that he would like to work with Goggins again.
    • Edi Patterson had a recurring role in McBride's previous series Vice Principals as Ms. Abbot.
  • Written by Cast Member: McBride has a writing credit on every episode of the first season and Edi Patterson has one for the sixth episode. The two of them wrote "Misbehavin'" from the fifth episode along with the show's composer, Joseph Stephens.
