Trivia / The Lost World (1912)

• Dawson Casting: Done via photographs instead, but when Doyle himself portrayed Challenger for a photograph included with some editions of the book, he was 53, 8 years older than his character.
• Science Marches On: Doyle messes up with dinosaur anatomy and the full geography of South America. He also makes use of various later-discredited genetic theories (Professor Challenger first shows off his genius by identifying Malone as Irish through some stunningly racist means).
• Write Who You Know: Professor Challenger is based on the physiologist William Rutherford, whom Doyle had as a teacher in medical school.
