- Follow the Leader: This Animated Anthology inaugurated the concept of anime shorts/series based on an American franchise, leading to works like Batman: Gotham Knight, Halo Legends, Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 (itself leading to Blade Runner: Black Lotus), and Star Wars: Visions.
- Technology Marches On:
- At the end of The Second Renaissance, the Machines sign their name in a barcode. Had this film been made 10+ years later, they probably would have used a QR code.
- On meta level, when the anthology was released, Final Flight of the Osiris was hyped as a great technological marvel of CGI animation, due to how extensively it used the fledging technology of motion capture. It ironically became terribly dated within just a few years, to the point the anthology is more acclaimed nowadays for the traditionally animated anime shorts rather than Osiris. The short being the final work developed by the Square Enix division Square Pictures (which was already on the way of shutdown due to the failure of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within) makes its aging more unfortunate.
