Trivia / Tales of Xillia 2

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Haruna Ikezawa and Erin Fitzgerald voice the new Team Pet Rollo in addition to reprising their roles as Teepo from the first game.
  • Actor Allusion: Amongst other things, the reason Gaius has Dymlos' human form as a DLC cameo costume? They share the same Japanese voice actor.
  • Dummied Out:
    • There is an unused voice line in the game's data when Victor and Elle are escaping Spirius agents, where Victor tells Elle to promise him she'll go to the Land of Canaan. In the game proper, Victor's line is omitted and Elle simply makes the promise unprompted.
    • There exists an unused skit about poker, where Alvin convinces the party to take a break by scaring them off with the threat of Vagueness Is Coming if they don't stop playing.
    • Several characters have unused artes with accompanying (and localized) voice lines:
      • The arte "Twin Lotus" is exclusive to Julius and Victor in normal gameplay, but Ludger is programmed to use it and even has localized text describing it as an arte that was taught to Ludger by Victor.
      • The arte "Endless Waltz" is exclusive to Ludger and Victor, and the text describes it as an arte that was taught to Ludger by Julius. However, Julius never uses this arte when fought in normal gameplay, despite having Japanese and English voice lines for it.
    • In the Ludger and Elle routes of Chapter 15, Julius' defeat quote exists in the voice files as "Well done, that's what I wanted.", which is unused in the game proper. It remains in the manga, but Julius is unable to finish his sentence before he's fully transformed into a Divergence Catalyst and Ludger is drawn into his Fractured Dimension.
    • There exists an alternate recording of the Bad Ending in Japanese, where Ludger asks Julius what he'd like for dinner after Ludger kills the party.
    • Game data suggests one version of the game's Bad Ending featured Ludger answering when Julius says, "You threw away everything for me?" via Dialogue Tree. There is no other evidence in the game's files about what the other dialogue option was, only that one of them was "That's what you did for me".
  • Orphaned Reference:
    • Ludger's Endless Waltz arte has a line in its description about it being learned from Julius. However, Julius' voice lines for it were Dummied Out, and in the released version of the game, he's not actually programmed to use that arte. To top it all off, Ludger only gains access to that arte after beating the final boss, whereas Julius dies the chapter before then.
    • It's never explained what caused Ludger's Dream Intro where he sees Julius giving an Exposition Dump on Origin's Trial, all of which end up lining up with reality, but supplementary material reveals Ludger was initially planned to have dreams of alternate universes.
  • Real Time Time Skip: Both the original Japanese and international releases managed to release Xillia 2 one year after Xillia, the same time skip that occurs between the two games in-universe.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The inclusion of Gaius and Muzet as playable characters, the Hot Springs Episode, and the Tales cameo fight, were intended for the first Xillia game but got cut for time constraints and were instead implemented in Xillia 2.
  • Significant Double Casting: Takashi Kondo and Jessie James Grelle play Ludger and Elle's father, Victor, who is secretly Ludger's Alternate Self from a future timeline.
  • Typecasting: J. Michael Tatum, known for playing stoic glasses-wearing Smart Guys who trend towards anti heroism or outright villainy, voices Julius.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • There were five unused dimensions that were mentioned in the Tales of Xillia 2 Official World Guidance:
      • 1) A world where Leia was never born because of Leia's father Warrick not having the courage to propose to Sonia in this dimension.
      • 2) The Ludger of this world refused to complete his mission because he feared he would hurt his friends, and lives as a normal person. He even knows he's from a different dimension and that he would disappear along with his world.
      • 3) Agria's tragic past never occurs. As a result, Agria lives happily as Lady Nadia Travis, and its hinted she has feelings for Gaius.
      • 4) Exodus has already been destroyed by Milla, but Jude and Professor Haus continue their spyrix research, earning them Milla's wrath.
      • 5) Both Gaius and Wingul are enemies and are at war with each other.

List of Fractured Dimensions (Unmarked Spoilers!)
  • F4128 - In this world, Jude's father was never stranded on Rieze Maxia , remaining on Elympios as a doctor. Jude was never born as a result.
  • F41DB - Elle's main dimension. This takes place 10 years in the future. In this dimension however, Victor (who's actually this dimension's version of Ludger) kills Bisley, Julius, Jude and his friends (with the exception of Milla, Muzet and Gaius) when everyone tries to protect Bisley (and mentions him being his father). Notably in this universe, 8 years prior, Jude finished his spyrite research resulting in spyrites safe for humans to keep as pets before he was murdered.
  • F4214 - In this world, Chancellor Marcia has a pet cat named Sonny as her confidant, although it turns out that Sonny is actually a spirit itself.
  • F4216 - In this world, Muzet & Milla came into conflict with Exodus much sooner, resulting in their defeat and the Schism being reinforced fourteen years early. In addition, the Svent family (including Gilland and Alvin,) were not on the Zenethra at the time, leaving them in Elympios. Unfortunately, Muzet was blinded and abandoned by Maxwell, Milla never had the Four Great Spirits on her side since the war has ended and Muzet has became very abusive toward her sister. Gilland was the successor to his family and kept Elympios alive by using the spirit Aska.
  • F412C - In this world, Agria is alive and is Leia's friend and ally, though she's still very much rude and abrasive. In this universe, Agria let Leia help her up at the Hallowmont, resulting in the two becoming friends...of sorts.
  • F4221 - In this world, Karla, Gaius' sister, had a life-threatening illness, and Gaius considered abdicating the throne to look after her. However, Wingul convinces Karla to commit suicide. Ultimately, Gaius abdicated the throne out of grief and was never seen again. Wingul took over the throne but was unsuited to deal with the pressures and duties of being king as well as his regret towards Gaius and succumbed to paranoia and grief, and Kanbalar turned into a police-state country. It is also mentioned that he even killed Jiao, Presa and Agria out of paranoia they were plotting to assassinate him.
  • F4223 - In this world both Yurgen and Alvin are successful businessmen selling rare ores and business is certainly booming on Rieze Maxia and Elympios. Isla is pregnant and is preparing a wedding at Yurgen's favorite bar in Duval.
  • F4224 - In this world, the Epsilla Ruins didn't collapse, so the machine entity Odin is able to continue preserving the people of the Thor civilization as data in preparation for the day that they can return to the world. This dimension is notable in that Odin is aware that his is a fractured dimension, and is rumored to turn trespassers into data.
  • F4227 - In this world, the legendary Seafall Phantom exists and roams the Kijara Seafalls killing any unfortunate wanderers with stigma artes.
  • F4229 - In this world, though Nachtigal's sister Carrie dies anyway, Rowen remains in Rashugal military service. Thanks to Rowen's wisdom and forebearance, Nachtigal is instead a benevolent king, beloved by his people, instead of the Evil Overlord that his main universe version was. Nachtigal even kept Carrie's pendant as a memento to remember that day, as well as a reminder to never stray from the right path. The citizens of Fennmont and by proxy the people of Rashugal, sing Nachtigal's praises and love him dearly.
  • F422D - In this world, the former evil king Melard rules Kanbalar (only to have died at the hands of his own creation by the time Ludger showed up). Gaius is now part of the Chimeriad and is their friend, far more so than the main universe's Gaius was as King.
  • F422F - A rather... ambiguous Aska was captured by Rashugal and shipped to the Laforte Research Center, where he is worked on by Jude and a now paranoid Professor Haus. Aska hints at tethering with Jude a lot and clearly loves him.
  • F4235 - In this world, Alvin proposed to Presa before they went to the Hallowmont.
  • F4237 - In this world, the people of Nia Khera don't believe in Maxwell and the Great Spirits and assume it's some fairy tale story. Ivar is the only one who still does and is mocked by the townsfolk for it.
  • F423A - In this world, Jiao adopted Elize as his own daughter rather than turning her over for booster experiments and fights poachers as the head of the Kitarl Clan. Yurgen is surreptitiously helping poachers out to help pay for his wife's medicine.
  • F423D - In this world, the Spirit Muzet killed Milla Maxwell while she was an amnesiac spirit and took over as commander of the Great Four.
  • There are three other fractured dimensions that are somewhat unaccounted for. The first (chapter 2), is where Bisley and Vera are replaced by the bank director and his assistant Nova, while the leader of the terrorists is Julius who doesn't have his Chromatus. The second part is where Volt was recreated in Helioborg and the last one involves a rogue Rowen rampaging across Elympios after Elize, Driselle and Gaius were murdered.
  • Another is Julius' fractured dimension world after he was defeated by Ludger in the final battle. In this world, everything seems peaceful and flatout perfect for most of Ludger's friends are successful. Nova and Vera's personalities seem to have switched, and Ludger is popular in Trigleph Station for his cooking skills. It is hinted that this is the world where neither of them has the power of the Chromatus and the train hijacking in the beginning never happened.
