Trivia / Super Why!

Go To

  • Baby Name Trend Starter: The name "Wyatt" rose in popularity after the premiere of the show due to the titular protagonist having that name in his non-superhero form (albeit spelled "Whyatt").
  • Colbert Bump: Thanks to the Protegent advertisements using a Whyatt recolor and their Memetic Mutation status, this series became relevant again.
  • Completely Different Title: In French, the series is titled Super Tom et les Motamots.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: If you really think about it, this show is actually similar to Blue's Clues with the characters jumping into books, the Super Duper Computer being similar to the Handy Dandy Notebook, the Super Letters to Blue's Clues' pawprint clues and the fact that both shows were created by Angela Santomero.
  • The Merch: There were toys, games (video and board), books, and the Super Readers were the mascots of Alpha-Bits cereal until it was discontinued in May 2021.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Whyatt was voiced by Nicholas Castel Vanderburgh in Season 1, then later Nicholas Kaegi in Season 2. In Season 3, he was voiced by Johnny Orlando, breaking the pattern of being voiced by a Nicholas.
    • Pig and Red were initially voiced by Zachary Bloch and Siera Florindo, respectively. In the final season, they were voiced by Samuel Faraci and TJ McGibbon, respectively.
  • Referenced by...: The Super Readers make an appearance in The Season's My Reason, where they bring Yui Nagomi along on a reading adventure to help her find the lost Recipepe. Her Super Story Answer is to "Find Tiana".
  • Role Reprise: In Comic Book Adventures:
    • Tajja Isen returned to voice Princess Presto.
    • Andrew Sabiston returned to voice The Eraser.
  • Saved from Development Hell: There was a nearly decade long gap between the original pitch and the final product coming out.
  • Science Marches On: In the dinosaur episode, the token ceratopsian is introduced as Torosaurus. At the time the episode was in production, a popular theory was that Torosaurus was thought to be the adult form of the stock ceratopsian Triceratops. If they were the same, the name Triceratops should stick, but popular reporting got it mixed up and seemed to favor Torosaurus. Later research would prove that Torosaurus was most likely its own species.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: The voices of Whyatt, Pig, Red, Princess Pea, and Woofster were credited, but every other actor was listed under "Additional Voices". However, sometimes it's easy to tell who voices who, e.g Christian Distefano as Aiden. Comic Book Adventures does credit all of the voices, however.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, the series was pitched to Nick Jr. all the way back in 1999, and the pilot was stop-motion animated and the character designs were wildly different. It was premiered at the 2000 Annecy Film Festival. The pilot is now available on YouTube. Prior to the discovery of the footage, at least nine screenshots; the pilot's logo; and an unused version of the theme song being the only surviving evidence that the pilot existed.
    • Wee Willie was originally the main character while he lived in a children's library with Willa, his (currently unnamed) younger baby sibling, his parents, and his kangaroo friend, Roo-Who. The premise also had the main character answering his questions to fairytale characters inside books such as Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs, while he originally had the power to question why and used critical thinking to solve problems.
    • There were three unused intros of the pilot that was composed by Nick Balaban for the pilot. Two of three of them are available to the public.
    • The demo audio for the pilot had some different voiceover lines, sound effects, and audio from the actual pilot, it can be found on YouTube.
  • Word of God: According to this article, Whyatt was made a boy because boys are more reluctant readers.
  • Working Title: At one point when the series was getting produced for PBS, the name Super Readers to the Rescue was considered, but it was ultimately decided to keep the Super Why name.
