Whyatt Beanstalk is the lead protagonist of the show. He is a small, olive-skinned boy who loves to read. His main claim to fame is being the younger brother of Jack Beanstalk.

His superhero form is Super Why, who has the ability to change words in a sentence to adjust its meaning.

  • Affectionate Nickname: He sometimes goes by "Why". Becomes a plot point in "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", where "Why" is Baby Joy's first word.
  • Ambiguously Brown: He has olive skin and his race is unknown, although it's speculated by fans that he could be Hispanic or Latino.
  • Birthday Episode: He has his birthday in "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," wherein his family are acting sneaky because they were planning a surprise party for him.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Brunet to Woofster's Blond and Red's Redhead.
  • Blue Is Heroic: As Whyatt, he wears a blue polo shirt. As Super Why, his outfit includes a blue cape and accents. In Comic Book Adventures, the blue on his outfit is emphasized more.
  • Brainy Brunette: Whyatt is brown-haired, and loves reading.
  • Character Catchphrase: When he arrives at the Book Club, he says "Whyatt here."
  • Chest Insignia: A blue book with three gold rings around it.
  • Cool Big Bro: He is a cool big brother towards Joy, his baby sister, and helped to calm her down in "Jack and the Beanstalk."
  • Cute Bookworm: A Rare Male Example; he's a bookworm, and he's adorable. Not to mention, his Innocent Blue Eyes help emphasize his cuteness a lot!
  • Dub Name Change: Tom in the French dub. Much like his English counterpart, he also has a Punny Name (The French word for "word" is "mot", which is Tom backwards).

Red Riding Hood, more commonly known as Red, is the show's secondary protagonist. She is a small, fair-skinned girl who loves rhymes. Her main claim to fame is being the star of Little Red Riding Hood.

Her superhero form is Wonder Red, who has the ability to swap words with ones that rhyme ("weed" into "seed", "wall" into "ball").

  • Adaptational Modesty: In Comic Book Adventures, her outfit was changed so as to cover her arms and legs.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Redhead to Woofster's Blond and Whyatt/Princess Pea's Brunet(te).
  • Braids of Action: As Wonder Red, she wears her hair in braids.
  • Character Catchphrase: When she arrives at the Book Club, she says "Red Riding Hood, rolling in!"
  • Fiery Redhead: She has red hair, and can be temperamental when thing don't go the way she had hoped.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As Red, she wears her hair in pigtails.
  • Informed Judaism: She was never indicated to be Jewish prior to "Judith's Happy Chanukah," which reveals that she celebrates Chanukah.

  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Whyatt's Blue. Red is bold and sassy, while Whyatt is calm and levelheaded. This is also reflected in their color schemes; Red is associated with the color red, while Super Why's costume has blue accents on it.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Her powers revolve around words that rhyme with each other. She has her own song listing various words that end in the same sound.
  • Rollerblade Good: She wears rollerskates both normally and transformed, but they become much faster rollerblades when transformed.

  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Princess Pea's Girly Girl. Red loves sports and rollerskating.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Even though she is a tomboy, she has a girly side as well. In "Cinderella", she shows some concern that she doesn't have a princess dress, a crown and a carriage to go to Sleeping Beauty's party and in "The Nutcracker", she really enjoys herself figure skating in the Land of Snow. She even wears her hair as pigtails and her default outfit has a skirt, both as Red.

Alpha Pig

Littlest Pig is a secondary protagonist. He is a young pig who likes building things. His main claim to fame is being the youngest of The Three Little Pigs (the one who lived in the brick house).

His superhero form is Alpha-Pig, who has the ability to create objects by using the alphabet.

  • The Baby of the Bunch: He is considered the youngest of the Super Readers, but is treated as an equal. He is also the youngest of his brothers, but they tend to believe that he's too young to do certain things and often ignore him.
  • Brainy Pig: He shows great architectural know-how, as well as being proficient with the alphabet.
  • The Cameo: Despite not appearing in Comic Book Adventures, he makes a cameo as a doll in "Outta Compound Words."
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • When he arrives at the Book Club, he says "P is for Pig!"
    • When the viewers help him, he says "Let's give ourselves a big thumbs up!"
  • Color-Coded Characters: He wears yellow, Middle Pig wears red, and Biggest Pig wears green.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: His eyes are bright blue, and he is a passive, gentle little pig.
  • In the Name of the Moon: Before using his powers, he says "Alpha Pig to the rescue!"
  • Kid Hero: About eight years old, and is a superhero.
  • Missing Mom: We see his father, Poppa Pig, but never his mother.

Princess Pea is a secondary protagonist. She is a young, dark-skinned girl who loves dancing. Her main claim to fame is being the daughter of The Princess and the Pea.

Her superhero form is Princess Presto, who, like Alpha-Pig, can create objects, however she writes out the letters rather than using the alphabet.

Woofster, formerly known as Puppy, is the deuteragonist of the show. He is a Golden Retriever puppy who lives with Whyatt. His main claim to fame is appearing in an in-universe series of children's books.

His superhero form is...well, Woofster, who has the ability to define words using his Doggy Dictionary.

  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Blond to Whyatt/Princess Pea's Brunet(te) and Red's Redhead.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": In Season 2 at least, where he is called "Puppy" when he is in his normal form. Averted in Season 3 as he is called "Woofster", even in his normal form.
  • The Cameo: Despite being removed from Comic Book Adventures, he made a cameo as a painting Super Why made in "Power Paige's Art Smarts."
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: The Male Mutt to Princess Pea's unnamed cat's Female Feline.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Technically Fur of Gold, though.
  • Precious Puppy: Just look at him! He's really adorable!
  • Put on a Bus: Removed from Comic Book Adventures.
  • The Smart Guy: He knows what any word means.
  • Team Pet: He was added to the show's roster to serve as Whyatt's pet and a mascot of sorts for the Super Readers.

    Power Paige

Power Paige is the newest member of the Super Readers, introduced in the 2023 short-form series Super Why! Comic Book Adventures. Unlike the other characters, she doesn't seem to come from a fairytale. Her specialty is correcting word problems with her Power Pencil.

Storybrook Village

     Jill

Jill is a resident of Storybrook Village. She is from the nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill".

    Jack Beanstalk 
Voiced by: Unknown

Jack, known for climbing the beanstalk, is Whyatt and Joy's teenage brother.

  • Berserk Button: Whyatt being in his room, though if you've seen "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", you can understand why.
  • Cool Big Bro: His defining trait.
  • Jerkass Ball: In a rare out-of-character moment, "Goldilocks and the Three Bears: The Mystery" has him quickly blame Whyatt for breaking his guitar string, even though he had no evidence. The actual culprit was Baby Joy.
  • Put on a Bus: He left for college near the end of Season One.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks almost identical to Whyatt. The only difference is that Jack is taller and has green eyes.

    Joy Beanstalk 
Voiced by: Stock Sound Effects (Season 1), Nissae Isen (Season 2), Kira Gelineau (Season 3)

Joy is Jack and Whyatt's baby sister.

  • Goo-Goo-Godlike:
    • In "Jack and the Beanstalk", she grows huge while throwing a fit. However, this was likely a figment of Whyatt's imagination.
    • In "Goldilocks and the Three Bears: The Mystery", she broke Jack's guitar string by...plucking it.

    Peter Piper

Peter Piper is a resident of Storybrook Village. He is from the eponymous nursery rhyme.

    Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty is a resident of Storybrook Village. She is from the eponymous fairy tale.

    Wolfy

Wolfy is a resident of Storybrook Village. He is the son of the Big Bad Wolf.

The Eraser is a villain that debuted in the episode "Comic Book: Attack of the Eraser" He loves to erase things. Comic Book Adventures brings him back and makes him a member of the Super Readers' rogues gallery.
  • Affably Evil: He can be polite to the Super Readers, and to the viewer as well. In "Gotta Get the Letter G," when he realizes that he is alone at the park, he invites Power Paige inside, and in "Cats at Bat," he plays baseball with Paige and Red.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: He has pink skin.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": He has the letter E on his shirt in Comic Book Adventures.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In "Gotta Get the Letter G," he erases the letter G from the park gate so he can have the park all to himself. but then he realizes that he cannot do anything at the park because he is by himself. Then, he cannot get out of the park because he erased the G.
  • Evil Is Hammy: He loves to ham it up.
  • Evil Laugh: He often performs one when he erases things.
  • Flight: In the TV series, he was capable of flight. In Comic Book Adventures, he can only fly if he spins a stick thing with an eraser on each end.
  • For the Evulz: He seems to erase things just because he can.
  • Good Feels Good: In "Gotta Get the Letter G," he helps retrieve the letter G and open the park gate. He states at the end that he likes being a hero.
  • Heel–Face Turn: In "Attack of the Eraser," he became good when Super Why changes his story so that he only erases mistakes. However, he is back to being a villain in Comic Book Adventures, which is implied to be set in a different universe from the TV series.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: In "Save the Signs," he got his leg stuck in a crack in the road, and the Super Readers had to save him.
  • Karma Houdini: While he did reform at the end of "Attack of the Eraser," he still never received punishment for causing a traffic jam, breaking a clock, and almost destroying the entirety of Reader Valley.
  • Manchild: He often cries like a baby in Comic Book Adventures.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He was horrified when he erased the animals at the zoo.
  • Rubber Man: In Comic Book Adventures, he seems to be made of rubber, since he can stretch his limbs.
  • Stupid Evil: In "AEIOU, Trouble at the Zoo," he erases the vowels from the animals, making the animals disappear. Then he cries that he only wanted to erase the vowels, not the animals, even though the animals require vowels.

    The Shuffler

The Shuffler is a robot villain who likes mixing things up.
  • Affably Evil: She was friendly with Power Paige in "Outta Space is Outta Control," and helped her save fellow villain Outta Space.
  • Big "NO!": She performed this when Super Why and Power Paige retrieve their paintings from her.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": A subtle example; the curl on her forehead makes the letter 'S' for Shuffler.
  • Cartoon Juggling: She shuffles things up by juggling them, using the shower variant.
  • Extendable Arms: She extends her arms to steal one of Super Why's paintings in "Power Paige's Art Smarts."
  • Fembot: Her voice, hair, and skirt-like thing establish her as feminine.
  • Motif: She has a jazz motif, evident in her dancing with a cane and constant scatting.
  • Robot Hair: She has red hair.
  • Scatting: She often scats. When she is introduced in "Power Paige's Art Smarts," she sings "Bee bop, skidoo bop."
  • Speech Impediment: She has a slight lisp.
  • Two-Faced: Her head swivels around when she changes facial expressions, similar to the mayor in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
  • Unusual Euphemism: She uses "Aw, shuffles" as an expletive.
  • Villainous Friendship: Downplayed. While she helped save Outta Space, another villain, we don't know if they are actually friends or not.

    Outta Space

Outta Space is an alien who removes spaces from sentences.
  • Creepy High-Pitched Voice: His voice was digitally pitched up quite a lot, and he's one of the villains.
  • Distressed Dude:
    • In "Reader Valley Freeze," he accidentally froze himself, and Power Paige had to use the word "hot" to unfreeze him.
    • In "Outta Space is Outta Control," his flying saucer goes out of control, and it's up to Paige and The Shuffler to save him.
  • Flying Saucer: He uses his saucer to zap spaces from sentences.
  • For the Evulz: He has no motivation for removing spaces from sentences other than he thinks it's fun.
  • Giggling Villain: He giggles a lot.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In "Reader Valley Freeze," he freezes a ton of things...and then freezes himself.
  • The Noseless: He has no nose.
  • Orange/Blue Contrast: He has orange skin and a blue suit.
  • Shrink Ray: In "Outta Compound Words," he uses his saucer to remove the space from the phrase "doll house," causing Power Paige and her house to shrink.
  • Verbal Tic: He uses "Z" in place of "S."
  • We Will Meet Again: After he is defeated in "Outta Compound Words," he says that he will be back.
