Trivia / Start the Revolution Without Me

• The Cast Showoff: Gene Wilder with fencing. It shows up in several of his other movies too. Wilder was a college fencing champion and one of the best fencers in the country at one time.
• Fake Nationality: Nobody in the film is actually French. However, the rest of the film is very period-accurate, and they really did film on location, in and around Paris.
• Playing Their Own Twin: Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland play two pairs of identical twins.
• What Could Have Been: A bit of fun irony, Gene Wilder turned down the role of Milo Minderbender in Catch-22 (despite loving the book and very much wanting the role) because of Creative Differences. He chose to do this film, instead. His hope was that his best friend at the time, Charles Grodin, would play the other set of twins. Grodin though, turned this film down because he'd already signed on to play Arfy Aardvark in Catch-22. Wilder and Grodin eventually did work together in the The Woman in Red.
