    • Writer Brannon Braga famously called the episode "a royal, steaming stinker" on the DVD set.
    • Series co-creator Jeri Taylor admitted hating the episode thanks to the amount of criticism she got from her family and friends over it; half of them just thought the episode's concept was stupid, while the other half took offence to the episode implicitly endorsing evolution theory over Young-Earth Creationism.

  • Similarly Named Works: Brannon Braga would later become involved in a short-lived sci-fi series called Threshold.
  • Technology Marches On: Tom and B'Elanna working off a table littered with PADDs.
  • Written by Cast Member: Just for one scene, anyway - Robert Duncan McNeill personally helped rewrite the final scene, as he felt it originally didn't end very well.
