- Creator Backlash: Paul McCartney seems to have disowned "Spies Like Us", his Top Ten recording from the film. The song has not appeared on any of the numerous best-ofs Paul has released. To date, the song's only appearance on a McCartney album of any sort is the CD reissue of Press to Play, one of his rarest and least sought-after albums.
- Production Posse: Many Saturday Night Live alumni (both Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase are members) tend to team up for various movies. SCTV alum Joe Flaherty has a bit role as well. Not to mention all the producer cameos at the drive-in.
- Elmer Bernstein scores the film. He was a frequent collaborator of John Landis. He also scored Ghostbusters (1984), which was written by and starring Aykroyd.
- Shout-Out: A subtle one. We know already that the movie is an homage to Bob Hope's "Road To X" films. When Millbarge and Fitzhume make a collect call to Ruby and Keyes, Ruby tells the pair to go to "the Road to Dushanbe
." The road in question is actually called the Pamir Highway, or the M41. But the in-universe name for it is a sort of homagey Played With Title Drop. Then Bob Hope himself shows up. - What Could Have Been: John Belushi was originally going to star opposite Dan Aykroyd before his death. Joe Piscopo was also considered.
