Trivia / Shin Megami Tensei if...

Go To

  • Development Hell: The English fan patch spent over 6 years in development, often going long times without any info on its progress.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: While the game itself is already widely preserved and even translated into English, the prequel Hazama's Chapter, due to being a cellphone game, has yet to be backed up. Someone at least is uploading a playthrough of the game.
  • No Export for You: As is common for the series, this game was never released outside Japan. Interestingly, due to the somewhat less "controversial" nature of the game's content compared to the rest of the series (that is, you only fight a student who wants to be God instead of actually fighting God), there were whispers that the game was considered for a Western release, but this obviously never bore fruit.
  • What Could Have Been: The cellphone prequel Hazama's Chapter was originally going to be on the SNES: first included in if... proper, then as a separate, limited run game exclusively for subscribers to Atlus's "Shin Megami Tensei Fan Club "DDS-NET"" newsletter, but both of them fell through. Additionally, it was originally planned to be even more Nintendo Hard than most MegaTen games: you weren't going to be able to recruit demons at all. In the final game, Hazama has a COMP.
