Trivia / Scream VI

Go To

  • California Doubling: Set in New York, filmed in Montreal.
  • Content Leak: About three weeks before the release of the film, the Ghostface unmasking scene for Wayne and Ethan leaked out, which in the process also revealed that there are three Ghostface killers this time. However, Quinn's unmasking was not revealed in advance.
  • Creator's Favorite:
    • Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown called Nancy Loomis their favorite killer in the series in an interview. note
    • Jack Champion said that his favorite killer is Stu Macher. This makes it fitting that Champion's character Ethan dies having his head crushed by the exact same TV that killed Stu.
  • Dawson Casting:
  • Development Gag: Upon finding the TV that killed Stu Macher, the characters briefly discuss conspiracy theories that he survived his death in the first Scream. Stu was originally going to be revealed as alive in Scream 3, acting as the main villain from prison.
  • Playing Against Type: Tony Revolori, who usually plays Plucky Comic Relief characters, portrays a sociopathic, petty murderer.
  • Production Posse: Samara Weaving and Henry Czerny both starred in Radio Silence's previous movie Ready or Not (2019) and she and Jenna Ortega in The Babysitter: Killer Queen as well.
  • Refitted for Sequel:
    • Gale's chase sequence resembles Wes's original Chase Scene in an early script for Scream (2022) where Wes manages to get a backup pistol out of his mom's safe. Unlike Wes, Gale lives.
    • Kevin Williamson's first script for Scream 2 had the twist of three killers, with two of the Ghostfaces appearing on screen at the same time for shock value. Furthermore, the new Ghostface mastermind is basically Nancy Loomis's Spear Counterpart and has a similar motive of avenging his son.
    • One of the original plans for the 2022 Scream, had the initial ending for Scream 4 been used, would have involved Jill Roberts going to college, only to have somebody taunt her with the knowledge of what she did. Sam's situation is not entirely dissimilar, with Ghostface having started rumors about her being the real perpetrator behind the 2022 attacks, in effect taunting and tormenting her with what happened in a previous massacre.
  • Release Date Change: Was originally scheduled to release in cinemas on March 31, 2023 before being bumped up to March 10.
  • Role Reprise: Hayden Panettiere returns as Kirby Reed for the first time in 12 years since Scream 4.
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: Jack Champion and Liana Liberato are quite believable as the siblings of Jack Quaid.
  • Those Two Actors: Samara Weaving (Laura Crane) and Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter) previously appeared together about three years before this movie's release in The Babysitter: Killer Queen with the former as Bee and the latter as Phoebe Atwell.
  • Troubled Production: This is the first film in the series to not star Neve Campbell, largely because she felt that the money the producers were offering her was too little. Radio Silence gave several statements on how her absence affected the film's production; in December 2022, Gillett stated that the script was impacted "greatly" and needed some pretty major rewrites as a result, indicating that her role would've been quite substantial, although in March 2023, the directors stated that the script had changed "very little" since Campbell's exit occurred "early enough in the process".
  • Underage Casting: Jack Champion was actually a little too young to be in college when Scream VI was filmed, being 17.
  • Word of God:
    • Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have stated that Detective Bailey was the Ghostface at the bodega.
    • An early draft of the script also revealed that Quinn, Ethan and Richie's mother was not a part of the plot due to her objecting and Ethan murdering her in anger.
