- Dyeing for Your Art: Franka Potente dyed her hair red to play Lola. As the colour was so sensitive, she couldn't wash her hair at all during filming. Her hair was so badly damaged by the dye that she shaved her head afterwards so she could grow back her normal hair.
- One-Take Wonder: The scene where Lola plays roulette, bets everything she has on Black 20, and wins. They filmed the croupier spinning the roulette wheel and dropping the ball, intending to later film a prepared shot of the ball landing on the correct spot, and edit the two shots together. But the ball actually landed on Black 20 on the first take, so no editing was needed.
- Real-Life Relative: Monica Bleibtreu (mother of Moritz Bleibtreu, who plays Manni) plays the blind woman whose phone card Manni borrows to call Lola.
- Throw It In!:
- When Lola is playing roulette in the final loop an initial take was filmed of the wheel spinning and the ball being dropped, with the intention of later editing it together with a staged shot of the ball landing on twenty to complete the scene and win her the money she needed. However, on that first take the ball actually hit twenty!
- The painting on the wall of the casino came about because the director hated the empty space. He asked for a painting of Kim Novak from Vertigo. The artist couldn't remember what she looked like, so he was told to paint her from behind.
