Trivia / Roary the Racing Car

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: So much so that the British Nick Jr. feed continued to promote the show after pre-empting it with Max and Ruby.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Many, especially when compared to other Chapman productions:
    • Big Chris is voiced by Peter Kay, who also provides the show's theme song in character, and also voices Tin Top and Big Christine. The late Sir Stirling Moss, a well-loved Formula 1 driver, narrated the episodes. Craig Lowndes voices the recurring character Conrod.
    • The US dub averts this trope, instead going for American voice actors, with the exception of Stock Car driver Sam Hornish Jr. as the narrator.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Zig-Zagged.
    • Maria Darling voiced the titular racing car in the English dub, However, Benjamin Wahlgren voiced him in the Swedish Dub.
    • Big Christine, Big Chris's mom, is voiced by Peter Kay.
  • Fake Nationality: Marc Silk (English) voiced Drifter (Japanese) and Maxi (Italian).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Good luck finding any foreign dubs of the show.
  • Referenced by...: Drive, a newspaper relating to cars, made an article about Roary the Racing Car. The article discussed Craig Lowndes, who voiced Conrod in the series.
  • Same Language Dub: An American English dub was made for the show and aired on Sprout. It changed a few character names and of course, replaced all the British terminology with American terms. However, it is quite hard to come across nowadays. A few of the episodes could be found as bonus features on other HIT Entertainment DVDs.
  • Screwed by the Network: Nick Jr. continued to advertise the show, even after it was replaced by Max and Ruby when DreamWorks Animation went through the process of purchasing the rights to all of Keith Chapman's shows (save for Bob the Builder and PAW Patrol). Roary had been airing on Nick in the UK for ages, which probably made Nick think that they were in the clear to air the show.
