For a relatively lighthearted fanfic, this tory has some surprisingly unnerving moments. And that is before Cerebus Syndrome sets in.
T.rex Returns
- As always, the Mesozoic-ending meteor is a massive source of panic, but here, Nigel ahs the added problem of facing off against it while trying to get the injured but still alive female rex through the portal.
The City of Cactus
- This is the first time in the series where any of the cast visits the future, and unlike in the previous missions, both the characters and the readers are truly in the dark as to just what, exactly, they might encounter here.
- The complete slaughter of the staff inside the research facility Tristan finds. Not only are all of the people who fought their attackers killed off, but whatever killed them evidently took zero casualties, as only the staff's decaying bodies are found in the lab.
- The most feared of all creatures from Primeval makes their debut here: the Future Predator. And they most definitely have not lost any of their scariness.
- For the initial parts of the chapter, only vague hints as to what is hunting Tristan are shown, making it entirely possible to not realize these creatures are here until we finally see one in the flesh.
- Even when they attack in the night, they're always hidden by shadows, so we don't know what they look like.
- One of them effortlessly knocks out Tristan while the latter is trying to access the research area.
- They're the ones who perpetrated the slaughter mentioned above.
- The complete and absolute savagery they display when attacking Nigel - instead of just trying to kill him, it steals a security team member's tranquilizer rifle and viciously clubs Nigel before going in for the killing blow.
- Word of God revealed that the scene could have been worse - at one point, he considered have the predator tear Nigel apart.
- The final scene of the chapter reveals that the predators are being bred as Bioweapon Beasts. And unlike with Leek, they don't need mind control chips to ensure their loyalty.
The Land Outside Of Time
- Some of the future predators survived the final battle from the previous episode.
- Much of the major fight with the future predators has the team (particularly Tristan) just trying to avoid being killed by the creatures - there really is nothing they can do to stop the fight.
- The team almost being sacrificed in the Sun Ring. Unlike Aloy, they'd really stand no chance against the Behemoth.
- Null arriving at the park. It's clear he doesn't mean well at all.
- The fact that he arrives with the aid of some Kestrels and a Faro machine called the Medjed. Keep in mind said machines completely cleaned Earth of living creatures.
