Trivia / Power Bomberman

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The game received an influx of new players after being talked about by gillythekid on his video "MORE Fan Games As Good As Official".
  • Development Gag:
  • Doing It for the Art: Due to its status as a Fan Game, the creators can't make any money off of the game, instead doing it out of geniuine love and adoration for the series. The game's dedicated servers are paid for by the lead developer himself.
  • Dummied Out:
    • Although the stage Flow 'n' Blow is based on Blue Resort from Bomberman 64, there are also graphics and text from a scrapped Wide stage based on the latter. The graphics still looked a bit messy at that point in development, as they contain perspective errors.
    • A Wide stage taking place inside a Pyramid was scrapped, with only a few tiles remaining in the files.
    • At School, a stage from the older versions of the game, is still present but has not been implemented, one reason being that the lead developer is dissatisfied with how it looks.
    • Sprites for several stage gimmicks such as the Sawblade from Saturn Bomberman and the Zombies from Bomberman Blast exist, but are not used in-game.
    • The game's language file contains references to unused items, such as an Ice Bomb, Wind Bomb, Vacuum Bomb, Grappling Hook, Hot Potato, Force, and Evil. Some of them also contain descriptions on what they were meant to do.
  • Orphaned Reference: As mentioned under What Could Have Been, the rhino on the sidelines of Midtown Madness, besides being a reference to Rhinoceros, is a remnant of a scrapped gimmick for the stage.
  • Saved from Development Hell: Version 0.7.1 was released in late 2019, three years after the previous version. This was because it made a ton of major changes to the game in order for it to be better, including rewriting it in Game Maker Studio 2.
  • Throw It In!: Originally, Path of Glory and the Item Help area looked the same, but when the former was given a visual revamp on version 0.7.5, the latter wasn't changed to match due to an oversight. The developers thought that having the old design be exclusive to the Item Help section looked nice, so they never fixed it. This has no longer been the case since version 0.7.7, as the Item Help section was given a visual revamp, rendering the old layout unused.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • During the earliest stages of development, a full adventure mode akin to Saturn Bomberman was experimented with, but the developers decided to keep expanding the Battle Mode instead.
    • Special abilities for each character were discussed, until the developers quickly realized that there were too many of them to make this feasible.
    • The Special Bombs used by the Five Dastardly Bombers from Super Bomberman R were considered, but only the Magnet Bomb and Ruse made it in while the rest were scrapped for a variety of reasons.
    • Midtown Madness was suggested by its artist, who is a fan of Rhinoceros, to have aggressive rhinos as a gimmick, but it was rejected because it would have shifted the focus from bombing players to dodging monsters. The lone rhino seen on the right border is a remnant of this idea.
    • Bomura's Rampage was supposed to feature multiple different monsters, but this concept was ultimately dismissed for being too time consuming to produce. The idea of having the stage take place on a movie screen inside a theater was also considered, but nothing came out of it.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Originally, the Discord server had a channel named #pb-sprite-submissions, which featured a big list of characters that anyone could tackle and, if their work was good enough, users could become spriters for the game. In practice, however, it often received character contributions that were completely unrelated to Bomberman (or Hudson Soft and Konami as a whole), which led to the channel being shut down and only being accessible by moderators.
  • Working Title: The game was originally released as Rho Bomberman, but it was changed to its current title a few months later, with the release of version 0.3.1.
