Trivia / Outcast

For the Movie

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: 24 million; Box Office: 4.8 million. Despite pandering to Chinese audiences in general, the idea of two Mighty Whitey heroes saving the Chinese dynasty didn't fare well with the local critics. The fact that the film didn't even score a wide theatrical release in the States is another reason.
  • International Coproduction: America-Canada-China. But specially pandering to the latter, given it's setting.

For the TV Series

  • Dueling Shows: Mildly with Preacher (2016) - the two premiered just a fortnight apart, each has a 10 episode run, both are based on comic books, were commissioned on the back of the success of Kirkman's other project The Walking Dead, and deal with themes of Christianity in contemporary America and demonic possession in a Crapsack World. However, so far the "duels" seem to have mostly been done in the spirit of fun, with reviewers largely recommending that the shows pair well together.
  • Short Run in Peru: Season 2 premiered in the UK before it did in the U.S.
  • Screwed by the Network: Cinemax, with reasons stemming from their bizarre choice of revising their series line-ups, up and cancelled Outcast despite it being a big hit.

For the video game

  • Dummied Out: In the game, there exist a level three upgrade for flamethrower and level one upgrade for the tranquilizer rifle, which you can only obtain through cheating. All upgrades to the flamethrower decrease the wind-up time of the weapon, and at level three the flame comes out the instant you press the fire button. The single upgrade to the rifle in turn makes the dart fly faster, greatly decreasing the need to anticipate the movements of your target.
  • Feelies: Included were sheets detailing every weapon available in the game and translations of every word of the Talan's language, "Agazork", into English.
  • Sequel Gap: With the original game released in June 1999 and the sequel released in March 2024, that's a gap of nearly 25 years.
  • Un-Canceled: The sequel was originally titled as Outcast 2: Lost Paradise, announced in 1999 for PC and Playstation 2 and being published by Atari. Unfortunately, it was canceled in 2001 after Appeal went bankrupt. Lo and behold, after the release of the first game's remaster Second Contact, the company was acquired by THQ Nordic and the sequel resurfaced with the new title A New Beginning two decades later.
