  • Actor Allusion:
    • In "Chuckles", while Thomas is in conversation with the Professor, he comes up with a disturbingly detailed murder plot, and then claims he saw it on Inspector Morse. James Grout, who played the Professor, was also a regular on Inspector Morse as Morse's boss, Chief Superintendent Strange.
    • Annette Crosbie's first line in the 2010 Christmas Special is a moan about garden gnomes. She also complained about garden gnomes at Christmas in her previous role as the long-suffering Margaret Meldrew in One Foot in the Grave.
  • Distanced from Current Events: One episode had Satan take the form of Jill Dando, and later reveal that he had always been Jill Dando. When, shortly afterwards, Dando was murdered, the episode was re-recorded to be about Gaby Roslin.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In the early series, God was voiced by David Swift; for Series 7, the role was taken over by Timothy West.
    • Though most of the roles in the 2012 television pilot were played by the same performers as their radio counterparts, the Professor had to be recast due to the death of James Grout.
    • In the first two episodes, Deborah is voiced by Penelope Nice. After this, she is played by series regular Felicity Montagu.
  • Role Reprise: Impersonator Jan Ravens reprises her Dead Ringers role as Kirsty Wark.
