Trivia / Monster Hunter: Rise

Go To

  • Content Leak:
    • Numerous details of the game were leaked on Reddit hours before the official reveal.
    • Due to CAPCOM being hacked, many details about Rise were unveiled early, such as monsters, gameplay mechanics, and the upcoming PC port.
    • A loading screen was leaked a few days before Espinas, Gore Magala, and Pyre Rakna-Kadaki were revealed during a CAPCOM showcase.
    • Another leak popped up days after the loading screen leak, showcasing Shagaru Magala before it would actually be revealed.
  • Creator's Favorite: Part of the reason the Hunting Horn went through such a big overhaul is because it's one of the favorites of director Yasunori Ichinose and he wanted more people to play it.
  • Killer App:
    • The game became the hottest product on the Nintendo Switch for its release window, selling four million units in its first three days, and seven million as of its first two months. It quickly became the best-selling third-party video game on the system, surpassing titles like Among Us, Octopath Traveler, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
    • Upon its release, Sunbreak became the most-played non free-to-play game on Steam.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Since Monster Hunter Frontier and its expansions were never released in the West, Sunbreak marks the first overseas appearance of Espinas and its now-named Flaming subspecies.
  • Meme Acknowledgement:
  • Multi-Platform: Rise is the first mainline Monster Hunter game to be on all three major console makers' platforms (Nintendo Switch, Sony PS4/5, Microsoft Xbox One/SS/SX) and on PC. That said, the now-defunct spinoff Monster Hunter Frontier was also available in a similar fashion on previous-gen consoles.
  • Refitted for Sequel: A scrapped weapon type for Generations was a gunner class that involved a hunting hound. It's clear that this partly inspired the Palamutes.
  • Role Reprise: Despite only being for a layer armor, Richard Epcar and Taketora come back as the respective English and Japanese voices of Akuma from Street Fighter V.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was originally planned to have load zones between each area like classic Monster Hunter games.
    • Originally, Amatsu was supposed to be the very last monster to be added and ending Rise/Sunbreak's run with Title Update 5. However, it was decided to add in Primordial Malzeno — along with improved armor Augmentations with new slots, plus more new decorations — as a Bonus Update to give a proper conclusion to Sunbreak's storyline while Amatsu concluded the base Rise's storyline.
  • Word of God: The developers acknowledged that atmospheric damage from hot/cold environments was removed because it didn't really "mean" anything in the grand scheme of gameplay; it was mostly there for realism and had no real impact besides punishing the player for not using items explicitly designed to stave off atmospheric damage.
