  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Jamie Chung, like Ji-Ah, is Korean. Well, Korean-American, though it's one of her few roles where she's been a character of Korean descent.
    • Monique Candelaria is Native American like Yahima, though of Aztec and Apache descent rather than Arawak.
  • Creator Backlash: Misha Green has stated she felt she failed in handling Yahima's death — which received backlash for its Bury Your Gays implications — and apologized for it.
  • Early-Bird Release: Some episodes debuted on HBO Max a few days prior to their linear television airing.
  • Fake American:
    • Christina is played by the Australian Abbey Lee.
    • Wunmi Mosaku, who plays Ruby, is British.
  • Hostility on the Set: In 2024, it was revealed that Jonathan Majors was aggressive towards three female employees on the set (two of them were second unit directors), which was bad enough that one employee quit the show. The three employees complained to HBO, who demanded that Majors apologize to them. Crew members reported that Majors tended to have a poor attitude with several other female employees too, to the point they warned each other to stay out of his way.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Monique Candelaria is two spirit like Yahima and pansexual (it must be noted that "two spirit" is an umbrella term to describe LGBT+ Native American people that can mean many different things, so they might not be a specific match).
  • Troubled Production: It came out in 2024 that the show's production was challenging for the cast and crew; not only was the dark subject matter emotionally gruelling and the shoots often long and complex due to the cosmic horror elements, but there were also issues with star Jonathan Majors being demanding and aggressive towards crew members, mostly women. Several crew members reported that Majors' attitude made it difficult for them to do their jobs, with assistant director Lisa Zugschwerdt quitting after a few episodes due to Majors' behaviour towards her and another assistant director Jessica Pollini being reduced to tears when Majors tried to intimidate her into leaving the role; female employees reportedly warned each other to tread carefully around Majors. When three women (including Pollini and Zugschwerdt) complained to HBO, Majors was ordered to apologise, though Pollini stated Majors treated it more as a misunderstanding. The 2021 non-fiction book, Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers, also discussed rumours that several writers on Lovecraft Country had a miserable time due its "toxic and hostile work environment", to the point it may have been a factor in the show getting cancelled after just one season.
  • What Could Have Been: There were originally plans for a second season, with it being announced Misha Green had begun working on some scripts in February 2021. However, in July 2021 it was announced that HBO wouldn't be moving forward with another season.
