Trivia / Lily's Poke-Madhouse

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: Lily had garnered some slack for her continual portrayal of her allegedly abusive ex-fiance in the comic's universe. When the Christmas Mini-Arc came out, she officially changed the comic ex-fiance to a fictional character named Kirsten and redesigned certain aspects of her character to less directly mirror her real-life situation.
  • Creator's Favorite: G, and Orchard is completely unapologetic about it. She's Orchard's favorite pokémon species, the main character of the comic and gets way more screen-time and character development than any of the other madhouse inhabitants.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Orchard has called out, rebuffed and/or mocked haters multiple times, sometimes even through the characters themselves.
  • Trolling Creator: Pretty much any story arc involving Lily and G's relationship comes down to this, as Orchard delights in the alarmed reactions of readers.
  • What Could Have Been: Due to Orchard's tendency to brainstorm publicly, many story threads have gone through multiple revisions before becoming actual comics.
    • G and Butterfree had a budding Ship Tease before someone pointed out to Orchard that Butterfree seemed child-coded, which made Orchard uncomfortable. The ship was dropped and replaced with a story of G having to get over Lily and move on to a new character, Marah.
    • Bonnie was originally going to be a true accident, with G resenting her very existence.
    • Honesty was originally going to end with Lily and G hugging it out and being okay despite the heartbreak G had suffered.
    • G herself was a very different character in initial drafts. She had intended to be a more villanous character who was extremely possessive and territorial. Early comics even show this as they used repurposed panels from those drafts. One unreleased idea that Orchard very recently shared included G having clawed a massive gash in Lily's arm.
      • Elements of G's older design were later repurposed for G of 2-82.
    • Lilligant was originally another Gardevoir who had been suffering from pokémon abuse. The story would have had Lily confronting her trainer later on. Parts of this idea were repurposed for Cala's character.
    • Just how exactly G formed the mating bond with Lily was supposed to be way more ambiguous to ramp up the creepiness factor of the situation. However, Orchard realized this would have been interpreted as worse than it sounds and wrote the details out afterwards.
  • Write What You Know: A lot of the story arcs in the comic center around mental health issues and abusive relationships, both platonic and romantic. Orchard has struggled with both and has gone into detail about it several times.
  • Write Who You Know: Kirsten, the abusive ex whose antics much of Lily's story is written around recovering from, is loosely based on an ex-partner of Orchard's.
