Trivia / Leprechaun in the Hood

  • Creator Backlash: Rob Spera, the director, goes back and forth on this. Initially he was reluctant to direct the movie, thinking that it needed a Black director to avoid being crassly offensive, and didn't think much of the result (evinced by his not listing it on his resume). That said, he was very cordial on the commentary for the 7-film collection, and admitted that it was a fun film to work on. In a more recent interview, Spera says that he's "stunned by the life this film still has" and while he doesn't regret making Leprechaun in the Hood, "if I was offered the directing job today, I just wouldn’t take it."
  • So My Kids Can Watch: Ice-T has stated that he took the role because his son was a fan of the Leprechaun films. That said, he doesn't regret doing it and enjoyed working with Warwick Davis, whom he considers a "legend."
  • What Could Have Been: The Leprechaun's rap originally occurred early in the film, specifically after the Leprechaun kills the club owner, which explains why he brainwashes the "Zombie fly girls" in that sequence. During editing, Spera recognized that it would be the movie's Signature Scene and made it the finale instead.
