• Died During Production: Sue Grafton passed away in December 2017, before she could begin what would have been the final book in the series. As Sue's daughter put it, "the alphabet now ends at Y".
• No Adaptations Allowed: Grafton refused to allow the series to be adapted for movies or television. She herself spent years as a Hollywood writer and recalled, "You're treated like a clerk whose job it is to type up everybody else's notes."
  • Despite her family initially saying they’d continue to respect her wishes, it was announced in October, 2021 that a television series was beginning development, with Grafton’s husband serving as executive producer.
