Trivia / Karlee Pérez

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: It was her idea for Catrina to lick Mil Muertes's opponents before his matches.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: She says she agreed to be on Lucha Underground as soon as they mentioned Robert Rodriguez's name.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Her asking for her release was motivated by the horrible treatment the Divas got on Raw and Smackdown compared to NXT Redemption.
    • She described NXT Season 3 as "Shit. Can I say that? They could have used us in so many ways." She is also deeply ashamed of her infamous match with Kaitlyn, and struggled to shake off the controversy of that for a while.
  • Dye Hard: She's naturally dark-haired but had to dye her hair blonde to distinguish herself from Aksana (see below). She later went redhead and then changed back to brown.
  • Executive Meddling: Claims she was told off for being "too curvy" and too sexual by WWE management.
  • I Am Not Spock: Due to First Installment Wins, she'll usually be referred to as 'former Diva Maxine' rather than her own name. Even with Lucha Underground's cult popularity, she'll still be Maxine to a good number of fans. Many fansites that started up when she was Maxine will still refer to her as such.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: She appeared on a TNA Knockouts PPV which was hosted by Ethan Carter III - who had played Derrick Bateman in WWE. They flirted in the ring, as a clear nod to their storyline relationship on NXT Redemption.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: Despite working mostly with AJ Lee and Kaitlyn, Karlee has said her favourite person to wrestle was actually Naomi - with whom she only had a couple of matches. And most of them were at FCW.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • At a live event shortly before NXT Season 3, she teamed with AJ Lee to face Naomi and Aksana. It was one of the only times she played a Face in her career.
    • In FCW she portrayed a corrupt General Manager and rarely got in the ring. When she re-debuted on NXT Redemption, she instead was a Dark Action Girl who was much louder and more aggressive than her cold calculating persona before. Catrina likewise is a return to the more calculating persona, as she is a valet who does not step into the ring much.
    • With regards to her acting career, she recalls Mapplethorpe - a serious biopic - as a huge departure from the roles she was originally brought in for.
  • Similarly Named Works: She appeared in web series called The Cell, not to be confused with the 2000 Jennifer Lopez movie.
  • Throw It In!: She and Johnny Curtis largely improvised everything they did on NXT Redemption, and were given free reign by the writers.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In developmental, her first name was Liviana, and changed to Maxine for NXT Season 3.
    • She pitched a character for Smackdown that ended up being given to Aksana for reasons she's unsure of. Even when Aksana first debuted on Smackdown, many fans assumed she was seducing Teddy Long to steal Smackdown for Maxine.
    • After she worked the Knockouts PPV there was talk of her joining TNA permanently, but she was offered Lucha Underground and opted to do that instead.
    • After she helped the Disciples Of Death defeat the original trios champions of Lucha Underground there were a number of attempts to book her against Ivelisse Velez across the independent circuit that never worked out (largely due to Velez getting injured on Lucha Underground shows before and after their initial confrontation). However, it worked out for Lucha Underground, who basically collected on the cash in attempts when they finally made the match happen.
