- Acting for Two: Mina Asami played both "Prince" Igam and Princess Iyal/Mio. She also sometimes plays Oyobu.
- Development Gag: The earlier design of the Maskman's helmet ended up being used for the team's predecessor X1 Mask, making him a literal Maskman Prototype.
- The Other Darrin: Hiroshi Takeda succeeded Eiichi Onoda as the show's narrator.
- What Could Have Been:
- Originally, the series was going to be titled "The Fiveman", and the five would be reflected in many of the team's elements, such as the Great Five, the first five-piece mecha. Three years later, another team ended up using the name "Fiveman".
- More for its predecessors, but the concept of a five-piece giant robot did not start with Maskman, but had taken time to manifest due to the difficulties in reproducing such a combination in toy form and fears of the cost of such a product.
- The Five-Man Band were originally to be part of a Sugata Detective Agency. That was changed to Sugata Racing, which was quickly dropped in the first episode.
- There may have been earlier plans for Zeba to be human and a former friend of Sugata's, only to be changed when Zeba's first actor left.
- The development of Galaxy Robo, the second "Second Robo" following Flash Titan, hinged on the commercial success of Great Five; had Great Five disappointed, there would have been no Galaxy Robo.
- Maskman lost one episode than usual for a Super Sentai 10th anniversary show which, due to delays in shooting brought about by bad weather, was pushed back a year.
