Trivia / Hellsing Ultimate Abridged

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Scott "KaiserNeko" Frerichs just can't seem to avoid this. Asides from picking up the role of Pip Bernadotte when his original actor became hard to reach, he voices several minor characters like Luke Valentine, Reginald Penwood, and many incidental voice lines. This tendency was noted by Takahata101 himself, stating the "default option" was to cast Scott for auxiliary characters in the Creator Commentary marathon stream.
    • Taka stated during the same marathon stream that casting Lanipator as The Major done so that Lani specifically would only voice one character as opposed to multiple like in DBZA. Despite that, Lani ended up playing one incidental Hellsing organization member in Episode 9 anyways.
  • All-Star Cast: Alongside TeamFourStar's memorable alumni from Dragon Ball Z Abridged, there's a number of other notable actors who play some of the villains or supporting cast. This includes Chris Guerrero, Kira Buckland, and Jessica Calvello, alongside actors who were in the original dub of Hellsing Ultimate under a pseudonym.
  • Approval of God: Taliesin Jaffe, the English voice director of the original anime and Ultimate, is himself a fan of the series, and he's mentioned it in some of the commentaries for the latter episodes of Ultimate. He even got K.T. Grey (Seras) to say the the famous "Bitches love cannons" line in the commentary for episode IX.
  • Colbert Bump: Jessica Calvello got a lot more recognition on the internet because of her role as Rip Van Winkle. It also helps that she has been in much more stuff along with this.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • KaiserNeko seriously regrets how they handled Rip Van Winkle's character, specifically saying he "Didn't even know what they were trying to do there." During the marathon stream, in particular, he's seen squirming in his seat every time Rip appears onscreen, with Takahata doing the same thing and leaving when she appears.
    • Takahata101 stated during the Episode 8 livestream that he finds the Epic Meal Time reference in Episode 2 cringeworthy because he thinks the reference is "dated".
    • During the final episode's montage of Alucard talking with the souls, he mentions how "getting angry about books made for horny teenage girls was ridiculous then, and it's ridiculous now". Beyond just being a mild Take That! toward the Twilight hatedom, it was also a jab at how they started the series, with Taka and Kaiser confirming so during the Marathon stream.
    • During the Hellsing Ultimate Abridged Marathon leading up to the finale, the group emphasized that there were some jokes in the earlier episodes that didn't age well and to keep in mind the internet was a different place at the time. The first episode alone has KaiserNeko regretting the "Rape Time" joke, leading to the first giveaway keyword being "cringe". Takahata also has this joke at the absolute top of his list of jokes he regretted making and still can't believe that Kaiser let him do it.
Takahata101: Everyone asks 'What's the one joke you regret the most?' That one! That one! It is bad It is bad! It is a bad joke and I should feel bad for writing it! And Kaiser should feel bad for saying 'Yeah, it's a good joke, Taka! Let's leave it in!'
  • Creator's Favorite:
    • KaiserNeko's favorite line he's ever voiced is Pip's Final Speech.
    • One of Taka's favorite scenes is the opening of Episode 3 between Abraham Van Helsing and Alucard's The Aristocrats punchline.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Jesse Nowack (Nowacking), a transgender man, voiced "Police Girl" Seras Victoria. Granted, this development mostly applies in the last two episodes, as he didn't come out as trans before then.
  • Defictionalization:
  • Meaningful Release Date: Episode 8 came out on 10/13/2017 aka October Friday the 13th. Why? Alucard comes back and gets to release Restriction Level 0. It also came out two weeks before Halloween 2017, which would make it the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's supposed nailing of his complaints which started the Protestant faith.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In the first episode, Walter is voiced by LittleKuriboh. From the second episode onwards he is voiced by Remix of Weekly Tube Show.
    • Pip Bernadotte was first played by Jragoswin in Episodes 3 and 4, but eventually became hard to reach. This led to KaiserNeko taking over the role for consistency's sake and would play Pip until the end of the series.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • MasakoX, who most people know as the voice of Goku in Dragon Ball Z Abridged, plays the evil mad scientist Herr Doktor. Takahata101 admits the reason that he had him and Lanipator play Herr Doktor and Major was so that they wouldn't be typecasted as good guys (and in Lani's case, a fighter).
    • Zach Hadel, otherwise known as psychicpebbles, has Large Ham, Cloud Cuckoolander and Comedic Sociopathy to describe the usual content he puts out and the characters he's played. Here, he plays Satan...who is none of those things and is an awkward, soft-spoken Nice Guy.
  • Throw It In!:
    • GanXingba was asked to read the disclaimer for Episode 3 with Jan's voice. He proceeded to improv Jan going completely off-script and giving his "vampire dick" rant, which made it into the final cut.
    • Taka yelled "Jesus wants a hug" as a random joke on seeing the establishing shot of Rio de Janeiro while working on Episode 3. This ended up making it into the final script.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The eyes on Alucard's first-restraint-released form were at one point planned to be digitally replaced with Mr. Popo faces, but this was abandoned for being too difficult to edit.
    • At an 18+ panel at Connecticon '12, Takahata101 stated that he had an idea for a follow-up to Rip van Winkle's death that must be heard to be believed, but to put it simply: 400 Nazis masturbating in unison.
    • During the Marathon, Taka mentioned that he wanted to edit Richard Traitoro Hellsing into the entire series to eventually betray Integra with Walter, and have everyone call him Traitoro (or Starscream) up to that point.
    • During the same marathon, Taka notes that Xthedarkone was initially penned to play Luke Valentine in Episode 2, before the team decided to change their minds to have him voice Walter, with Kaiser ended up being casted as Luke. Once they started doing the recording session for Walter however, they realized that it wasn't working, which forced them to recast Walter to Remix from Weekly Tube Show instead. Taka states this is one of his biggest casting regrets, where they inadvertently screwed him out of voicing for the show, though adds that Xthedarkone did end up keeping his role in the Cooler Movie for Dragon Ball Z Abridged and as a cameo for a Nazi soldier in Episode 6.
    • During the scene with the Nazi soldiers cheering in Episode 5, there is a particular enthusiastic "Woo-woo" from a soldier named Hans. According to Taka, Hans was going to be played by someone for "the Ultimate cameo" in his own words, but they had backed out at the last minute, which led to Kaiser filling in for it.
